{"id":232120,"date":"2016-12-06T10:53:33","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T17:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=232120"},"modified":"2016-12-06T10:53:33","modified_gmt":"2016-12-06T17:53:33","slug":"swim-ireland-names-performance-athletes-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swim-ireland-names-performance-athletes-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Swim Ireland Names Performance Athletes of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the weekend, Swim Ireland named its Performance Athletes of the Year, and the honors went to Olympic diver\u00a0<strong>Oliver Dingley<\/strong> and Paralympic swimmer<strong> Ellen Keane<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Dingley, Ireland&#8217;s first diver to qualify for an Olympic Games since 1948, finished an impressive eighth in the men&#8217;s three-meter springboard event in Rio this summer, while Keane, in her third trip to the Paralympic Games, won a bronze medal in the SB8 100 breaststroke this past September, and she also qualified for the final in the 100 back and 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Swim Ireland also recognized\u00a0<strong>Mona McSharry<\/strong> as the Junior Performance Athlete of the Year. The 16-year-old picked up a silver medal in the women&#8217;s 100 breast and a bronze in the 50 breast at the European Junior Championships in July, and she also finished sixth in the 200 breast at that meet.
