COLLEGE STATION, Texas, January 15. MEGAN Onstott of Austin, Texas has joined the No. 6-ranked Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team and is immediately eligible to compete, Aggie head swimming coach Steve Bultman announced. <\/p>\n
"I love the team, the staff and school," Onstott said. "(Texas A&M) has a great team atmosphere where you can succeed in and out of the pool alongside great people." <\/p>\n
Onstott, who was coached by Tim O'Brien at Nitro Swimming in Cedar Park, Texas, saw action for the Aggies in last Saturday's dual meet victories over No. 8 Auburn and No. 19 SMU. The 19-year old Onstott turned in times of 1:07.47 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:20.32 in the 200 breaststroke, and also had a 31.03 breaststroke split in the 200 medley relay. <\/p>\n
"Megan is a very good swimmer who will immediately help us in the breaststroke and IM," Bultman said. "She's a hard worker that wants to get better, and we're very excited to have her on our team." <\/p>\n
Onstott, who originally signed with Wisconsin, placed 25th in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., and placed 14th in the 200 breast at the 2009 U.S. Open in Federal Way, Wash. In other recent action, Onstott competed in the 100 breast and the 200 and 400 IM at the Short Course National Championships in Federal Way last December. <\/p>\n
A 2008 graduate of Westwood High School, Onstott graduated from Austin Community College in December 2009 with a general studies degree. At Westwood, Onstott was a National Merit Scholar, an Advanced Placement Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society.<\/p>\n
