The Club Wolverine Parent Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has officially named Gunnar Schmidt<\/strong> as Head Coach. During Gunnar\u2019s tenure as Interim Head Coach he has exhibited extraordinary leadership, innovation long and short term planning, commitment, innovation and athlete success. He has implemented a state of the art training routine involving technology, dryland and nutrition. He is also a positive liaison between CW and collegiate programs hoping to recruit CW swimmers.<\/p>\n

Gunnar was a 4-year varsity letter winner for the University of Michigan Men\u2019s Swim Team and was a 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials Qualifier. He was also a part of Club Wolverine\u2019s 2006 and 2007 USA Swimming National Championship Team. His coaching career began in 2009 in Illinois at Big Blue Aquatics as Head Coach and later moved to TOPS YMCA as Head Age Group Coach and Assistant Senior Coach. In 2014 he became an Assistant Coach of both Club Wolverine and Club Wolverine Elite. He is also a volunteer Assistant Coach for the University of Michigan Men\u2019s & Women\u2019s Team. He has helped develop multiple Michigan State Champions, Central Zone Champions, USA Swimming Junior National Qualifiers, U.S. Open Qualifiers, National Junior Team members and U.S. Olympic Trial Qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Gunnar\u2019s coaching philosophy is that \u201cthe process behind success is unique to each individual. By helping athletes discover their own path to success in swimming, they learn skills and lessons that will help them be successful in life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Club Wolverine was founded in 1956 and is celebrating its 60th Anniversary as the leading age group team not only in Michigan, but one of the most successful clubs nationally. We congratulate Gunnar and look forward to where he and his team of coaches lead Club Wolverine in the future.<\/p>\n

In a statement provided to\u00a0Swimming World<\/em>, Schmidt explained his excitement about the new position.<\/p>\n
