Dr. Sammy Lee, the first diver to win<\/p>\n

back-to-back Olympic titles (1948 & 1952)<\/div>\n
and the first Asian-American male to win<\/div>\n
an Olympic gold medal for the USA, has passed away.<\/div>\n
The cause of death was attributed to pneumonia.<\/div>\n
He was 96 years old. Dr. Lee was just 5’1 and 3\/4 inches tall, but was a giant in the worlds of the Olympics and International Aquatics and an American Hero.<\/div>\n
He was inducted into the\u00a0<\/a><\/div>\n
International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1968<\/a><\/div>\n
and visited Fort Lauderdale many times.<\/div>\n

Dr. Sammy Lee interviewed by Ted Keller at the Hall of Fame in 1980 tells about his trip to China, which was like “Marco Polo visiting China for the first time” In 6 years, the Chinese had caught up to the rest of the world in Diving and predicted they would be a nation to contend with in the future.
