COLUMBUS, Ohio, January 22. THE Ohio State women's swimming and diving team picked up its fifth win of the season, and its first in the Big Ten Conference, with a 152-91 win Friday over Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. The win improved the nation's 28th-ranked team in the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association Poll to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes return home to face Michigan at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
Eight different Buckeyes won individual events Friday, including divers Bianca Alvarez and Chelsea Davis, who won on the 3-meter and 1-meter springboard events, respectively. Ohio State also took first in the 400 medley relay to open the meet with Samantha Cheverton, Colleen Schweitzer, Shannon Draves and Lauren Massey posting a winning time of 3:49.30.<\/p>\n
Freshman Angela Severn staked the Buckeyes to a quick early lead by winning the 1000 freestyle in 10:22.93. The win was the second for Severn as a collegian and her first since winning the 200 freestyle Oct. 30 vs. Kenyon.<\/p>\n
Buckeye juniors won three of the next four races to put the Scarlet and Gray in command of the meet. Anita Beck won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.99. Katelyn Brix was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.80. And Samantha Cheverton won her team-best 11th race of the season with a first-place effort in the 100 butterfly in 55.72.<\/p>\n
Freshman Megan Detro and sophomore Catherine Eitel closed out the Buckeye wins. Detro won the 100 backstroke in 57.99 while Eitel won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.09.<\/p>\n
