EVANSTON, Illinois, January 21. THE University of Texas extended its tenure atop this year's CSCAA\/CollegeSwimming.com Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Poll. The University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team started out the new year the way the exited 2009 \u2013 ranked first in the CSCAA\/CollegeSwimming.com Division I Poll. <\/p>\n
For the men, the Longhorns captured over three-fourths of the twenty-five first place votes following dual meet wins over fifth-ranked Auburn and twelfth-ranked Georgia. Stanford and Arizona were separated by just three points. The two Pac 10 rivals will get an opportunity to prove who is best when they face off Friday in Tucson, Arizona. <\/p>\n
Fifteen teams changed positions in the latest poll. Ninth-ranked Ohio State was the biggest gainer, cracking the top ten for the first time in recent memory. Their 224-74 win over Indiana on January 16th dropped the Hoosiers out of the top twenty. The Buckeyes will have an opportunity to move up further this weekend when they host sixth-ranked Michigan on January 29th. <\/p>\n
Forty-four teams garnered votes in the latest poll. Southern Methodist was the only new entrant in the poll. The Mustangs finished third at the January 15-16 SMU Classic. <\/p>\n
For the women, the Bulldogs captured nearly a third of all first-place votes following a busy weekend that saw them down third-ranked Texas. Despite the loss, the Longhorns earned the respect of voters and moved ahead of Stanford to rank third. (Editor's note: Texas actually beat Georgia, 153-147, in their dual meet in on January 9.) <\/p>\n
University of Arizona remained in second. The Wildcats will have that ranking put to the test this weekend when they travel to both Stanford and California (ranked fourth and fifth respectively) before welcoming Texas. <\/p>\n
Just eight teams changed position in the latest poll, though fifty-three teams earned votes in the dual meet poll. <\/p>\n
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, Inc. (CSCAA), is the oldest coaches association in the United States of America. <\/p>\n
