MELBOURNE, Australia, January 16. THE second night of long course meter swimming at the Victorian Open Championships featured a run at the Victorian record in the women's 100 fly come up a bit short.<\/p>\n
A trio of swimmers cleared 1:00 in the women's 100 fly with Felicity Galvez winning in 58.74. She finished less than a second off Marieke Guehrer's Victorian record of 58.08 set last year. Alicia Coutts (59.56) and Ellen Gandy (59.78) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n
Youngster Dylan Warren, 16, emerged victorious from the men's 800 free with a time of 8:16.95, while Shane Asbury claimed second with an 8:18.09 in the distance event. Dylan Dunlop-Barrett earned third in 8:20.64. Bronte Barrett followed in the women's 400 free with an easy 4:13.38 for the win. Belinda Parslow touched a distant second with a 4:17.43, while Belinda Bennett (4:18.83) completed a top three sweep by women with a name beginning with the letter B. Geoff Huegill touched out Ryan Pini, 24.20 to 24.28, for the men's 50 fly title. Andrew Lauterstein wound up third in 24.34 in the sprint fly event.<\/p>\n
Daniel Arnamnart cruised in the men's 200 back with a winning time of 2:00.95. Ashley Delaney touched second in 2:04.64, while Travis Mahoney and Hayden Stoeckel tied for third with matching 2:05.99s. Kelly Stubbins raced to victory in the women's 100 back with a 1:02.74, while Grace Loh placed second in 1:03.12. Katy Murdoch grabbed third in 1:03.72.<\/p>\n
Jeremy Meyer knocked off Daniel Crook by the slimmest of margins in the men's 100 breast, 1:03.73 to 1:03.74, while Jack Laidler captured third-place honors in 1:06.02. Sarah Katsoulis snatched the women's 200 breast crown in 2:28.78, while Aisling Scott finished second in 2:31.27. Samantha Marshall pocketed third in 2:31.71.<\/p>\n
Tommaso D'Orsogna wound up with the win in the men's 200 free with a 1:48.74, while Patrick Murphy took second in 1:50.62. Michael Jack claimed third in 1:52.28. Alice Mills sprinted to the win in the women's 50 free with a 25.77. Coutts took her second podium spot with a second-place time of 26.00, while Guehrer placed third in 26.18. Sam Ashby completed individual swimming for the evening with a 2:04.50 to win the men's 200 IM. Jeremy Saunders took second in 2:07.14, while Kenneth To finished third in 2:07.41.<\/p>\n
In relay action, Belinda Parslow, Chelsea Carpenter, Talie Goddard and Bennett won the women's 800 free relay in 8:19.82, while Asbury, Ashley Delaney, Travis Mahoney and Adam Parslow claimed the men's 800 free relay title in 7:40.13.<\/p>\n
In multi-disability events, Tanya Huebner was listed in first in the women's 50 breast with a 50.51, while Peter Leek earned a first-place listing with a 28.33 in the men's 50 fly. Ahmed Kelly drew a first-place listing in the men's 100 breast with a 1:57.08, while Teigan Van Roosmalen was listed first in the women's 100 fly in 1:12.85.
