WELLINGTON, New Zealand, January 5. SWIMMING New Zealand has appointed 49-year old Australian Mark Regan as head coach of its performance athletes.<\/p>\n
Regan is an acclaimed coach who has taken several swimmers to podium success. He began coaching in Australia in 1978 and his success led to his appointment as head coach of the AIS in Canberra in 1998. This was followed by an international appointment in 2002 when he was appointed head coach of Denmark, a position he held for seven years. <\/p>\n
In 2008 Regan returned to Australia with his family. Swimming New Zealand General Manager Performance and Pathways Jan Cameron had no hesitation in appointing him head coach for Swimming New Zealand. "Mark is a hands' on coach who moved Denmark forward in world swimming and I believe he has the abilities to work with our coaches to do the same for swimming in New Zealand," said Cameron.<\/p>\n
