PHOENIX, Arizona, December 25. IT is becoming a tradition for Swimming World<\/i> to run a poem on Christmas day, and this year is no different. Throughout the year, we receive countless numbers of submissions hoping to be published. Most of the articles are requests to do feature stories on various personalities throughout the sport, but we also receive our fair share of poetry.<\/p>\n
Today, we publish a poem entitled Swimming<\/i> written and submitted by Geri Gmahling:<\/p>\n
Swimming<\/i>
\nSometimes the water
\nis setting jello,
\nresisting
\nthe rhythm of my strokes.<\/p>\n
Other times the water
\nis iced tea,
\nthin and cool,
\nsoothing as I glide through.<\/p>\n
Sometimes the water
\nis soda,
\nbright and effervescent;
\nI blast through the bubbles.<\/p>\n
The worst is when the water
\nis cream of wheat,
\nthick and unyielding,
\ndragging me down.<\/p>\n
The best is when the water
\nplays with my gravity,
\nhugging me and holding me
\nas I splash, twist and spin,
\ndive under in a graceful somersault,
\ncome up for air,
\nlay back on the surface
\nlook up at the sky and
