The NC State Wolfpack won both the women’s and men’s team titles at the school’s hosted invitational at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
The NC State men dominated the event and put up 2133 points over the three days of competition. Notre Dame finished second with 1593, and Duke was third with 1361. On the women’s side, the Wolfpack came from behind to pass geographic rival North Carolina on the final day of the competition. NC State scored 1938 points, to UNC’s 1845.5 and Duke’s 1561.5.<\/p>\n
NC State’s\u00a0Hannah Moore<\/strong> opened up the final night with her second win of the meet, this one in the 1650 free. She clocked 16:09.65, more than 15 seconds ahead of teammate\u00a0Rachel Muller<\/strong>, who finished in 16:25.08. Duke’s\u00a0Verity Abel<\/strong> grabbed third in 16:27.40. On the men’s side,\u00a0Anton Ipsen<\/strong> of the Wolfpack dominated the mile with a 14:39.63. Teammates\u00a0Jack McIntyre<\/strong> (15:00.52) and\u00a0Adam Linker\u00a0<\/strong>(15:04.78) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n NC State again picked up the top two spits in the women’s 200 back with senior\u00a0Alexia Zevnik<\/strong> winning in 1:53.05 and freshman\u00a0Mackenzie Glover<\/strong> taking second in 1:53.85. UNC’s\u00a0Hellen Moffitt<\/strong> finished third in 1:54.89. Wolfpack swimmers again picked up each of the top three spots in the men’s 200 back, with\u00a0Hennessey Stuart\u00a0<\/strong>winning in 1:41.31 and\u00a0Coleman Stuart<\/strong> edging\u00a0Justin Ress<\/strong> for second, 1:42.91 to 1:43.04.<\/p>\n Zevnik was back in the pool for the women’s 100 free, winning easily in 48.08.\u00a0Tar Heels\u00a0Caroline Baldwin<\/strong> (48.79) and\u00a0Sarah Hitchens<\/strong> (48.82) completed the top three, with NC State’s\u00a0Ky-Lee Perry<\/strong> just behind in 48.83. NC State Olympic gold medalist\u00a0Ryan Held<\/strong> picked up first in the men’s 100 free in 42.40. Notre Dame’s\u00a0Tabahn Afrik<\/strong> posted a 43.04 for second, and Tennessee’s\u00a0Kyle Decoursey<\/strong> finished third in 43.14.<\/p>\n NC State’s\u00a0Kayla Brumbaum\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the women’s 200 breast in 2:09.89. Finishing well back in second and third were UNC’s\u00a0Abby Fisher<\/strong> (2:14.07) and Notre Dame’s\u00a0Meaghan O’Donnell<\/strong> (2:14.22). NC State’s winning streak came to an end in the men’s 200 breast as Air Force’s\u00a0Kevin Fanter\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the win in 1:56.85. Duke’s\u00a0Judd Howard\u00a0<\/strong>was the runner-up in 1:57.90, just ahead of UNC’s\u00a0Craig Emslie\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.98).<\/p>\n UNC’s\u00a0Sarah Koucheki\u00a0<\/strong>earned top honors in the women’s 200 fly, posting a 1:55.84. Duke’s\u00a0Isa Paez<\/strong> edged out Moffitt for second, 1:56.61 to 1:56.84. Notre Dame’s\u00a0Matt Grauslys<\/strong> then crushed the field in the men’s 200 fly by more than three seconds, coming in at 1:44.29. UNC’s\u00a0Michael Meyer<\/strong> came in second at 1:47.34, and Notre Dame’s\u00a0Kevin Bradley\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:48.02.<\/p>\n In platform diving, UNC’s\u00a0Elissa Dawson\u00a0<\/strong>edged Tennessee’s\u00a0Rachel Rubadoe<\/strong> 261.55-255.10. Duke’s\u00a0Mary Ellen Targonski<\/strong> finished third with 246.80. For the men, Virginia’s\u00a0Ian Shelton\u00a0<\/strong>won with a score of 326.80, followed by UNC’s\u00a0James Brady\u00a0<\/strong>(321.00) and Duke’s\u00a0Evan Moretti\u00a0<\/strong>(311.65).<\/p>\n NC State dominated the meet-ending 400 free relays. Zevnik, Perry,\u00a0Krista Duffield<\/strong> and\u00a0Courtney Caldwell<\/strong> took first in the women’s race at 3:13.35, well ahead of Duke (3:16.69) and North Carolina (3:16.81). In the men’s event,\u00a0Ress,\u00a0Soeren Dahl<\/strong>, Scott Johnson<\/strong> and Held combined to finish in 2:52.28.
