In her first collegiate invitational, Stanford freshman\u00a0Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>has lowered one of her own American records. In Friday night’s final of the 500 free at the Ohio State Invitational, Ledecky posted a 4:26.46, just getting under her previous mark of 4:26.58 set last year.<\/p>\n

Ledecky also broke her own NCAA record, set in the morning prelims at 4:27.54. The only woman to ever crack the 4:30-barrier, Ledecky now owns the eight fastest times ever in the event.<\/p>\n

Kentucky’s\u00a0Genna Freriks<\/strong> finished second to Ledecky but almost 14 seconds back in 4:40.42.\u00a0Megan Byrnes<\/strong>, one of Ledecky’s classmates at Stanford, was third at 4:41.25.<\/p>\n

Stanford’s Lia Neal, Simone Manuel, Janet Hu<\/strong> and Ally Howe<\/strong> won the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.72). Howe, Kim Williams<\/strong>, Hu and Manuel won the 400 medley relay (3:29.63).<\/p>\n

Ohio State’s Liz Li<\/strong> set a meet record in the 50 freestyle (21.70), earning a spot at the 2017 NCAA Championships. She bested her time of 21.72 from last weekend at the USA College Challenge and set the top time of the season in the country. She beat out Manuel (21.82).<\/p>\n

Ella Eastin<\/strong> won the 200 IM in 1:54.06, hanging on to beat Kentucky freshman Asia Seidt<\/strong> (1:55.33).<\/p>\n

In the men’s meet, Ohio State’s Josh Fleagle, Mossimo Chavez, Andrew Appleby<\/strong> and Matt McHugh<\/strong> won the 200 freestyle relay (1:19.63). McHugh, Michael Eaton, Michael Salazar<\/strong> and Fleagle won’t he 400 medley relay (3:10.06).<\/p>\n

OSU’s Ching Lim<\/strong> won the 200 IM (1:51.13) to edge Utah’s Ethan Dillard (1:51.42).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
