{"id":229795,"date":"2016-11-18T10:14:40","date_gmt":"2016-11-18T17:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=229795"},"modified":"2016-11-18T10:14:40","modified_gmt":"2016-11-18T17:14:40","slug":"wada-to-propose-new-sanctioning-procedures-for-non-compliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wada-to-propose-new-sanctioning-procedures-for-non-compliance\/","title":{"rendered":"WADA Wants Sanctioning Power; IOC Members Leary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend. the World Anti-Doping Agency will meet in Glasgow to discuss a new system of sanctioning domestic anti-doping organizations for non-compliance.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report from InsideTheGames.biz, this new system would have three levels of violations: the lowest level dealing with administrative and procedural issues, a middle level for testing and education problems and a highest level for &#8220;serious faults such as the government&#8217;s interference and direct manipulation of the system,&#8221; such as\u00a0the McLaren Report describes Russia.<\/p>\n<p>According to Nick Butler, &#8220;sanctions will rise from warnings to escalating fines to, in the most serious cases, a suspension of athletes&#8217; eligibility to compete in a specific event.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This would mark an increase of WADA&#8217;s power as the organization would now have direct sanctioning power, not just make recommendations. This comes just days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ioc-president-bach-asserts-success-of-rio-games-and-agenda-2020-allows-russia-perspective\/\" target=\"_blank\">WADA was heavily criticized<\/a> at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly for overstepping its bounds in proposing Russia be banned entirely from the Rio Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>ANOC President\u00a0<strong>Sheikh Ahmad\u00a0<\/strong>and IOC President\u00a0<strong>Thomas Bach<\/strong> both criticized WADA for that proposal, as did Spanish Olympic Committee President <strong>Alejandro Blanco<\/strong>, who said, according to InsideTheGames.biz, &#8220;What is the objective of WADA?
