As you may remember, she redshirted the 2015-2015 season to prepare for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-makes-verbal-commitment-to-stanford\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">verbally committing to Stanford way back in May of 2014<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Ledecky\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">swim also broke the Stanford pool record of 9:30.69, which had been held by distance legend <\/span><b>Janet Evans <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since 1990. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That time is a little more than 10 second off of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-breaks-900-for-1000-yard-free-american-record\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">her lifetime best of 8:59.65<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which she did at the NCAP Invitational back in December of 2015. That time stands as the American Record in the event. This time gives <\/span><b>Ledecky <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the top time in the country in the event this year, with <\/span><b>Leah Smith\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recent 9:21.54 from the 2016 USA College Challenge as the next fastest time. <\/span><b>Ledecky <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is also currently ranked second in the 500 free behind Virginia\u2019s <\/span><b>Smith <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(4:33.94 to 4:32.52) and is fourth in the 200 free (1:44.18), and should be a major part of Stanford\u2019s challenge for an NCAA Championship this year. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-men-stanford-women-highlight-cscaa-division-i-polls\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team is currently ranked #1<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on the latest CSCAA Coaches Poll. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:
