HONG KONG, December 7. THE second day of long course meter action at the East Asian Games featured a complete revision of the meet record book.<\/p>\n
Japan's Yoshihiro Okumura knocked off teammate Sho Uchida, 1:46.37 to 1:46.87, in the men's 200 free. Both swimmers crushed Zhang Lin's meet record of 1:48.64. Zhang wound up third overall in 1:49.59.<\/p>\n
China's Liu Jing touched out Japan's Tomoyo Fukuda, 2:12.10 to 2:12.15, in an extremely close race for the women's 200 IM title. Korea's Seo-Yeong Kim finished third in 2:13.65 to lower the Korean record of 2:15.17 she set in July.<\/p>\n
Japan's Kohei Kawamoto smoked the men's 50 fly with a winning time of 23.60. He broke the meet record of 23.98 set by China's Zhou Jiawei in 2005. Zhou took second in 23.83 with China's Shi Feng taking third in 23.99.<\/p>\n
In a close battle, China's Gao Chang topped world record holder Zhao Jing, 27.43 to 27.45, in the women's 50 back. Both smashed Gao's meet record of 28.52 set in 2005. Japan's Miyuki Takemura took third in 28.48.<\/p>\n
Japan's Ryosuke Irie cruised in the men's 200 back with a Games-record time of 1:53.73. He far surpassed the 1:58.24 set by China's Ouyang Kunpeng back in 2005. Korea's Seonkwan Park finished second in 1:59.89, while China's Zhang Yu wound up third in 2:01.56.<\/p>\n
China's Jiao Liuyang just missed the Asian record in the women's 50 fly with a winning time of 25.91. Zhou Yafei's 25.57 from August withstood the try. Jiao did, however, demolish the 26.63 meet record set by Xu Yanwei in 2005. Japan's Misaki Ago took second in 26.64, while China's Hong Wenwen earned third in 26.65.<\/p>\n
Japan's Yohsuke Miyamoto won the men's 800 free in 7:59.85, while China's Li Yunqi took second in 8:01.30. Korea's Yonghwan Kang placed third in 8:01.45.<\/p>\n
China's Wang Xinyu, Tang Yi, Ha Sinan and Liu Jing won the women's 800 free relay in 8:01.14. The team cleared China's previous meet record of 8:02.37 set in 2001.
