A team captain is usually an upperclassman who has been elected to their position. A captain has this role because he or she is known to be a great leader and motivator. They have important qualities that can help guide and support the team to bring it to its fullest potential both in and out of the pool.<\/p>\n

Here are four reasons why having excellent team captains can be a great resource:<\/p>\n

1. They Know More Than You<\/h3>\n

To start off simply, they have been doing this longer than you. They have a good idea of how to balance the sport and school. The captains know the team and the coach really well. They have traveled to away meets and have seen the other teams in your conference. Your captain probably knows the ins and outs of the school and its surrounding area. Don\u2019t be afraid to use them for their knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n

2. They Have Good Advice<\/h3>\n

Going off of this expert knowledge, your captains probably can give you some sincere and valuable advice. Let them mentor you, help you with course scheduling, and advise you on internships and interviews. Pick their brains about the best study spots and all of the hidden wonders on campus. They can give good advice on things like roommate disputes, homework questions, or how to pack for away meets.<\/p>\n

3. They Organize Fun Events<\/h3>\n

They are in charge of coordinating team-bonding events. They may plan pasta parties or s’mores nights. If they organize a movie night use this as an opportunity to see off-campus housing and sit on a comfy couch with your friends. Enjoy the relaxing time and the team experience.<\/p>\n

4. They Want You To Succeed<\/h3>\n

You are all in this together. Your captains are there for a reason: they want to help you do well. They are assisting in leading the team, and from experience, they probably have some good ideas. They are here for you and want you to thrive both in and out of the pool. They want you to enjoy your time here as much as they have.<\/p>\n

Your captains were put in their position because they show good leadership, enthusiasm, and encouragement. Use them as a resource to help you have a fun and successful year. Go to them if you need assistance or just want to talk. Having great teammates, especially captains, can be one of the best parts of being on a team.<\/p>\n
