DURING the second night of swimming at the U.S. short course national championships, California&#39;s Dana Vollmer secured a pair of victories.<\/p>\n<p>Vollmer snatched the women&#39;s 100 fly title in 51.39, while teammate Amanda Sims finished second in 52.96. Issaquah&#39;s Kathryn Kinnear took third in 53.09.  Vollmer then doubled up with a meet-record time of 1:42.36 in the women&#39;s 200 free. She finished less than a second off her American record of 1:41.53, while ASK&#39;s Dagny Knutson placed second in 1:42.61 after leading with a 1:16.70 at the 150-yard mark. FAST&#39;s Katie Hoff earned third in 1:44.27.<\/p>\n<p>California&#39;s Erica Dagg, Caitlin Leverenz, Amanda Sims and Liv Jensen overtook Aquajets&#39; Rachel Bootsma, Abigail Duncan, Hailey Szews and Tess Behrens, 1:40.05 to 1:40.18, in the women&#39;s 200 medley relay. Southern California&#39;s Lili Shiota, Anna Kowalczyk, Yumi So and Lyndsay DePaul took third in 1:40.99.<\/p>\n<p>SwimMAC&#39;s Nick Thoman, Nelson Westby, Cullen Jones and Joseph Skuba turned in a meet-record time of 1:26.02 in the men&#39;s 200 medley relay. California&#39;s Guy Barnea, Nolan Koon, Graeme Moore and Nathan Adrian touched just behind with a second-place 1:26.16. Michigan&#39;s Alon Mandel, Neal Kennedy, Christopher Brady and Evan Ryser wound up third in 1:28.32.<\/p>\n<p>Hoff made a run at her American record (4:00.56) in the women&#39;s 400 IM with a swift time of 4:01.95. Southern California&#39;s Katinka Hosszu finished a distant second in 4:04.17, while Neptune&#39;s Madeline DiRado snagged third in 4:06.48.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Margalis cruised to the win in the men&#39;s 400 IM with a 3:45.24. Michigan&#39;s Andre Schultz (3:46.66) and Tyler Clary (3:48.30) rounded out the top three. Tucson Ford&#39;s Matt Grevers touched out Jason Dunford, 46.28 to 46.33, in the men&#39;s 100 fly. California&#39;s Nathan Adrian claimed third in 46.62.<\/p>\n<p>Club Wolverine&#39;s Peter Vanderkaay claimed the men&#39;s 200 free crown in 1:34.08. California&#39;s William Copeland turned in a second-place 1:35.02, while Matt Bartlett took third in 1:35.86.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#39;s 100 breast featured a star-studded field. Trojan&#39;s Rebecca Soni smoked the event with a winning meet-record time of 58.62. She finished just under a second back of Tara Kirk&#39;s American record time of 57.77. KING&#39;s Megan Jendrick finished second in 59.26. SwimMAC&#39;s Justine Mueller placed third in 59.39. Suburban&#39;s Corrie Clark (59.74), Terrapin&#39;s Kasey Carlson (59.81) and Canada&#39;s Annamay Pierse (59.92) also cleared 1:00.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Alexandrov topped the men&#39;s 100 breast in 52.07, beating Kosuke Kitajima for the win. Kitajima settled for second in 52.44, while Longhorn&#39;s Eric Shanteau earned third in 52.84.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana&#39;s Kate Fesenko threw down a 27.19 in the final 50 yards to touch out Phoenix Swim Club&#39;s Noriko Inada, 52.70 to 52.75, in the women&#39;s 100 back. Presley Bard finished third in 53.19. Nick Thoman then closed to within a second of the American record in the men&#39;s 100 back.  Thoman clocked a 45.60, a second off Ryan Lochte&#39;s 44.60. Rexford Tullius took second in 46.21, while Grevers finished third in 46.22.<\/p>\n<p>The 800 free relays completed the night. California&#39;s Leverenz, Lauren Boyle, Jensen and Sara Isakovic garnered the women&#39;s crown in 7:07.11. Southern California&#39;s Hosszu, DePaul, Shumway and Haley Anderson touched second in 7:13.16. California&#39;s B team of Blake Hayter, Katie Kastes, Heather White and Dagg finished third in 7:17.75.<\/p>\n<p>Southern California&#39;s Clement Lefert, James White, Zoltan Povazsay and James Martin cruised to the men&#39;s title in 6:25.44.
