Ames finished first with 341 points, while Johnston posted second with an accumulated 197 points. Bettendorf rounded out the top three with 189 points, their highest showing since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Ames got off to a quick start with a new state record in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of\u00a0<strong>Jazlyn Horras<\/strong> (26.97),\u00a0<strong>Molly Winer<\/strong> (29.39),\u00a0<strong>Grace Snyder<\/strong> (24.44), and\u00a0<strong>Sophie Sorenson\u00a0<\/strong>(22.98) delivered a combined time of 1:43.78, well under the previous state record of 1:45.50 (Ames, 2013).<\/p>\n<p>Johnston and Bettendorf followed with second and third place relay finishes of 1:46.49 and 1:46.81 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MyKenzie Leehy<\/strong> of Lewis Central topped the 200 free with a final time of 1:49.94, just ahead of Muscatine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taylor Beadle<\/strong> and her time of 1:50.36. Dowling Catholic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clare Culver<\/strong> completed the top three with a 1:52.40.<\/p>\n<p>The 200 IM saw big time drops from the top three finishers. Johnston&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lexi Horner<\/strong> led the way with a 2:02.31, shaving more than four seconds off her seed time of 2:06.93.\u00a0Sorenson of Ames picked up second with a 2:03.15, while Dubuque Wahlert&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Victoria Michel\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a 2:08.98.<\/p>\n<p>Seniors topped the podium in the 50 free finals with Muscatine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Schemmel\u00a0<\/strong>coming out on top. Schemmel posted a 23.11 for the gold. Johnston&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lexie Winnett\u00a0<\/strong>and Ankeny&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jasmine Rumley\u00a0<\/strong>delivered close times of 23.31 and 23.40 for second and third respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kelsey Drake<\/strong> of Linn-Mar flirted with a sub-55 second swim in the 100 fly, stopping the clock at a 55.13 for first.\u00a0<strong>Berit Quass<\/strong> of Dowling Catholic made her state debut with a 55.40 for second, while senior\u00a0<strong>Sam Fritz<\/strong> of Fairfield took third with a 56.89.<\/p>\n<p>Leehy pegged her second individual win of the day with a 50.29 finish in the 100 free. Ames&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Amy Feddersen\u00a0<\/strong>added a close finish of 50.34, while Schemmel held a close third of 50.39. All three received automatic consideration for All-American by posting times beneath a 50.50.<\/p>\n<p>Quass added a gold medal to her silver with a 4:58.50 showing in the 500 free, making her the only athlete underneath the 5-minute mark. Dowling Catholic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clare Culver\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed second with a 5:01.83, while third went to Southeast Polk&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lauryn Schieffe\u00a0<\/strong>(5:02.80).<\/p>\n<p>The relay quad of\u00a0<strong>Amy Feddersen<\/strong>\u00a0(23.49),<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Winer (23.99),\u00a0<strong>Sabrina Hegelheimer\u00a0<\/strong>(23.98), and Snyder (23.42) delivered another relay gold for Ames with a combined time of 1:34.88. Ankeny&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nikki Ault<\/strong> (25.28),\u00a0<strong>Christina Ware<\/strong> (24.44),\u00a0<strong>Sarah Shafer<\/strong> (23.87), and\u00a0Rumley (22.95) posted a combined time of 1:36.54 for second, while Johnston completed the podium with a 1:37.40 finish.<\/p>\n<p>Sorenson led Ames&#8217;\u00a0sweep of the podium for the 100 back with a 54.61 showing. Teammates\u00a0<strong>Sarah Bell\u00a0<\/strong>and Horras posted times of 56.79 and 57.08 for second and third respectively.<\/p>\n<p>A trio of seniors topped the podium of the 100 breaststroke, led by Johnsotn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lexi Horner\u00a0<\/strong>and her time of 1:03.75. Linn-Mar&#8217;s\u00a0Drake added a 1:04.23 finish for second, just ahead of Bettendorf&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sage Ohlenshele\u00a0<\/strong>and her time of 1:05.13.<\/p>\n<p>Ames completed the day by adding a final relay win in the 400 free relay. Sorenson (51.74),\u00a0<strong>Olivia Jenks<\/strong> (53.54),\u00a0<strong>Morgan Rosser\u00a0<\/strong>(53.51), and Feddersen\u00a0(49.95) posted a combined 3:28.74 for first.
