Hoffer clocked a 19.34 50 freestyle, only .05 shy of\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>&#8216;s National Public School record of 19.29 swum for Clay High School in November 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Hoffer followed that swim up with a dominating 46.97 to win the 100 butterfly. He took another stab at the 50 free record leading off the school&#8217;s winning 200 freestyle relay in 19.87. He was joined by\u00a0<strong>Tyler Best<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Cole Rodriguez<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Sam Acheson\u00a0<\/strong>to touch in 1:26.95.<\/p>\n<p>Hoffer teamed up with\u00a0Acheson,\u00a0<strong>Daniel Simmons<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Matthew LeBlanc\u00a0<\/strong>to claim the 400 freestyle relay crown in 3:10.00.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral&#8217;s Canadian Olympic medalist\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ruck\u00a0<\/strong>had a big afternoon of her own, also leading the Chapparal women to the state crown. The junior was state champion in the 200 freestyle (1:46.20) and 100 freestyle (49.29). She was also a pivotal piece of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:35.07) along with\u00a0<strong>Emma Segneri<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Chloe Zapata<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Gabriella Fagan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ruck,\u00a0<strong>Kelly Huffer<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Emma Broome<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Gabriella Fagan\u00a0<\/strong>won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.78.<\/p>\n<p>Catalina Foothills&#8217; boys had an impressive outing as well.\u00a0<strong>Brooks Fail\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 freestyle in 1:39.20. He was joined on the podium by teammate\u00a0<strong>Martin Hocheder\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.18) in third and Shadow Ridge&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Max Weed\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.35) in second.<\/p>\n<p>Fail then took the 500 freestyle in 4:27.44. Teammates <strong>Scott Pekarske\u00a0<\/strong>(4:43.99) and\u00a0Hocheder\u00a0(4:44.92) made it a team sweep. Their teammate\u00a0<strong>Sam Mulay\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 IM in 1:55.05, ahead of Chaparral&#8217;s LeBlanc (1:55.80) and Williams Field&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miller Browne\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.12).<\/p>\n<p>Mulay returned to the podium with a runner up finish in the 100 breaststroke (58.63) behind LeBlanc (58.56) and ahead of Notre Dame Prep&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ansel Averitte\u00a0<\/strong>(59.44). Averitte started the day with a gold of his own as he,\u00a0<strong>Charles Coronoa<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Nicholas Salvino<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Michael Morsch\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 1:38.00 to win the 200 medley relay. Chaparral&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marcus Liebman<\/strong>, LeBlanc, Simmons, and\u00a0<strong>Ellis Speagle\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.69) were second and with a 1:39.59 Liberty&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Troy Bills<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sean Flannery<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Grayson Jensen<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Chance White\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.59) earned bronze.<\/p>\n<p>Left in Hoffer&#8217;s wake were Arcadia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clay Stoddard\u00a0<\/strong>(21.18), Williams Field&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cash Heath\u00a0<\/strong>and Averitte (21.59) in the 50. Bills (50.60) and Mesquite&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniel Miovcic\u00a0<\/strong>(52.46) were second and third in the 100 fly. Stoddard then rose to the top in the 100 freestyle with a 46.27. Heath (47.22) and Acheson (47.97) completed the top trio.<\/p>\n<p>In his final individual event of the day, Liberty&#8217;s senior Bills stopped the clock in 51.00 to win the 100 backstroke. Verrado freshman\u00a0<strong>Jadan Nabor\u00a0<\/strong>(52.93) was second and Browne (52.95) snagged third.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral&#8217;s <strong>Braden Huffman<\/strong> (504.00) won the boys&#8217; diving.<\/p>\n<p>Behind Ruck&#8217;s performances the\u00a0Chaparral girls totaled an astounding 404 points to win the meet ahead of Desert Vista with 274 and third place finishers Arcadia with 266.5. On the boys side, Brophy College Prep racked up 394 points to Chaparral&#8217;s 345.5 and Catalina Foothills&#8217; 312.<\/p>\n<p>The Chaparral girls&#8217; depth shone through in the 200 medley relay where\u00a0<strong>Emma Broome<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Madison Leblanc<\/strong>, Segneri, and\u00a0<strong>Kelly Huffer\u00a0<\/strong>won the event\u00a0in 1:44.82, two seconds ahead of\u00a0<strong>Sydney Carlson<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Isabella Fratesi<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Savanna Carlson,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Samanth Milewski\u00a0<\/strong>from Arcadia (1:46.98). Milewski (1:52.22) and Leblanc (1:54.22) then turned around to finish second and third in the 200 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Milewski was also 500 frestyle runner up in 4:58.51. She touched just a second behind teammate\u00a0<strong>Sydney Carlson\u00a0<\/strong>with a 4:57.37. Leblanc was third again (4:59.94).<\/p>\n<p>Arcadia&#8217;s<strong> Savanna Carlson\u00a0<\/strong>edged Huffer 2:03.16 to 2:03.36 for the 200 IM. Sydney Carlson joined the duo on the podium in 2:04.00.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabriella Fagan\u00a0<\/strong>snuck under 24 seconds with a winning 50 freestyle of 23.96. Sunnyslope&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Elise Rodriguez\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 24.13 and Segneri completed the all senior top three with a 24.18.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral teammates Broome and Huffer went 1-2 in the 100 fly with times of 55.52 and 56.22. Catalina Foothills freshman\u00a0<strong>Taylor Alicea-Jorgensen\u00a0<\/strong>secured bronze in 57.04. Broome added a second state title with a 54.88 100 backstroke. McClintock freshman\u00a0<strong>Sophie Velitchkov\u00a0<\/strong>followed the senior in 56.45. Two tenths behind her was Notre Dame Prep&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexa Markl\u00a0<\/strong>(56.65).<\/p>\n<p>Campo Verde&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kati Hage\u00a0<\/strong>claimed the 100 breaststroke crown with a 1:04.75.
