ZAGREB, Croatia, November 23. THE two-day short course Mladost Meet held in Zagreb, Croatia produced a few more national records to be entered into the books.<\/p>\n
Croatia's Duje Draganja beat his national record of 52.57 with a 52.17 to win the men's 100 IM. That readout also beat the meet record of 53.46 set by Peter Mankoc last year. Mankoc took second this year with a 52.60. Meanwhile, Mankoc clocked a 50.38 in the men's 100 fly to beat his own meet record of 50.84 from last year, while Draganja went on to win the men's 50 free in a meet record of 21.11. He beat his prelim time of 21.58.<\/p>\n
Hungary's Daniel Gyurta posted a national record 2:04.14 in the men's 200 breast. He smashed his 2005 record of 2:08.49, and his national record of 2:05.49 set in 2007. Gyurta also beat his national record in the men's 100 breast with a 57.72. That timing beat his national standard of 58.99 set in 2008, and James Gibson's meet record of 58.52 from last year as well.<\/p>\n
Croatia's Lana Dragojevic set the Croatian mark in the women's 50 breast with a 31.47. That swim beat Smiljana Marinovic's time of 31.73 from earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Russia's Evgeniy Lagunov won the men's 100 free in 46.86, to beat his meet record of 47.97 set during prelims. Slovenia's Emil Tahirovic followed with a meet record in the men's 50 breast. He clocked a 26.54 to beat his record time of 26.61 set last year.<\/p>\n
Russia's Irina Bespalova clocked a meet record time of 58.04 in the women's 100 fly. The time beat Sophie De Ronchi's record of 59.32 set during prelims. De Ronchi placed second in 59.42 while swimming for France. Bespalova also checked in with a 26.34 in the women's 50 fly for the meet record. She eclipsed the 26.35 set by Therese Alshammar back in 2005. De Ronchi would later clock a 1:01.61 in the women's 100 IM for the meet record. She beat her prelim time of 1:01.90.<\/p>\n
Hungary's Evelyn Verraszto crushed her meet record in the women's 200 IM with a 2:08.12. Her previous mark stood at 2:11.25 since last year. Sanja Jovanovic touched in 58.25 in the women's 100 back for the meet record. She beat her own 59.35 set last year.<\/p>\n
Mario Todorovic snatched the meet record in the men's 50 fly with a 22.81. He surpassed Alexei Puninski's record of 23.04 from prelims. Puninski settled for second in 22.93.<\/p>\n
Russia's Alexander Sukhorukov pocketed the meet record in the men's 200 free with a 1:45.93. That effort beat Radovan Siljevski's 2008 mark of 1:46.05. <\/p>\n
Serbia's Nadja Higl won the women's 200 breast in a meet record time of 2:19.50. Her effort crushed Mirna Jukic's previous mark of 2:22.47 set last year. Higl also won the 100 breast in 1:06.45.<\/p>\n
In other action, Hungary's Zsuzsanna Jakabos cruised to victory in the women's 200 free with a 1:58.00. Ante Cvitkovic picked up the men's 100 back title in 52.56, while Hungary's Tamas Gercsak won the men's 200 fly in 1:59.13. Cvitkovic returned in the men's 50 back with a triumphant time of 24.40, along with a 1:55.44 in the men's 200 back for the win and the backstroke sweep.<\/p>\n
Lidija Franic placed first in the women's 50 back with a 28.56, while Hungary's David Verraszto snared the men's 400 free in 3:46.25. Russia's Svetlana Fedulova won the women's 50 free in 24.78. Fedulova doubled up with a 54.71 to win the women's 100 free. Ivana Bolanca topped the women's 200 back in 2:11.88. Karla Sitic captured the women's 200 fly title in 2:15.89. Anja Klinar turned in a 4:09.50 to win the women's 400 free, while Sasa Impric touched in 1:58.93 for the men's 200 IM title.<\/p>\n
