THE second day of short course meter finals came to a close at the FINA World Cup stop hosted in Singapore with three world records being set by Kathryn Meaklim, Peter Marshall and Therese Alshammar.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 1500 free<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Robert Hurley won the distance event with a time of 14:32.47, while Tunisia&#39;s Ous Mellouli finished second in 14:56.31. Japan&#39;s Yu Machida rounded out the top three in 15:07.06.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 free<\/b><br \/>\nGreat Britain&#39;s Fran Halsall lowered the World Cup record with a time of 51.19.  She downed her time of 51.61 set in Stockholm, that also stood as her national record, and came up just short of Libby Lenton&#39;s world record of 51.01. The Netherlands&#39; Inge Dekker finished second in 52.11, while Germany&#39;s Daniela Schreiber took third in 53.18.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 free<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Darian Townsend claimed the event title with a time of 1:41.65, while Switzerland&#39;s Dominik Meichtry finished second in 1:42.83. Meichtry lowered his national record of 1:43.11 set back in 2008. Great Britain&#39;s Ross Davenport wound up third in 1:43.25. <\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 breast<\/b><br \/>\nIn an all-star finale, Jessica Hardy of the U.S. cruised to victory in the sprint breast with a time of 29.09. Australia&#39;s Sarah Katsoulis finished second in 29.50, while Leisel Jones placed third in 30.07.  Katsoulis downed her Australian record of 29.61 set in August 2009.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 breast<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Cameron van der Burgh easily nabbed the crown with a time of 56.25. Teammate Neil Versfeld touched second in 56.74, while Brazil&#39;s Felipe Da Silva snatched third in 57.11.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 400 IM<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Kathryn Meaklim smashed the distance medley world record with a time of 4:22.88.  That swim wiped out the 4:25.06 set by Mireia Belmonte Garcia back in December of 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the comparative splits:<br \/>\nMeaklim: 28.84, 1:01.68 (32.84), 1:36.73 (35.05), 2:10.57 (33.84), 2:46.62 (36.05), 3:22.75 (36.13), 3:53.48 (30.73), 4:22.88 (29.40)<br \/>\nBelmonte Garcia: 29.60, 1:02.28 (32.68), 1:36.63 (34.35), 2:10.12 (33.49), 2:46.86 (36.74), 3:24.51 (37.65), 3:55.13 (30.62), 4:25.06 (29.93) <\/p>\n<p>Notably, Meaklim also crushed Belmonte Garcia&#39;s World Cup record of 4:26.40 set in Stockholm.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#39;s Svetlana Karpeeva (4:38.35) and Singapore&#39;s Ting Ting Koh (4:54.81) completed the top three.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 fly<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Mitchell Patterson won the event in 49.51, while South Africa&#39;s Garth Tune touched second in 50.36. Australia&#39;s Geoff Huegill wound up third in 50.47. Patterson beat Andrew Lauterstein&#39;s Australian record of 49.54 set twice this circuit.  <\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 back<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Marieke Guehrer captured the event in 56.97, while Great Britain&#39;s Elizabeth Simmonds placed second in 57.10.  Australia&#39;s Emily Seebohm wound up third in 57.67.  Guehrer cleared Seebohm&#39;s Australian record of 57.47 set in August of this year.  <\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 back<\/b><br \/>\nPeter Marshall of the U.S. checked in with a world record time of 22.61 in the sprint back.  That performance clipped his global standard of 22.73 set at the Stockholm stop. Russia&#39;s Stanislav Donets finished second in 23.34, while Brazil&#39;s Guilherme Guido took third in 23.39.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 fly<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Jessicah Schipper beat her national record with a time of 2:03.27.  Her previous time of 2:03.32 was set in August of this year.  South Africa&#39;s Mandy Loots wound up second in 2:04.24, lowering her national standard of 2:04.48 set at the Berlin stop.  Felicity Galvez of Australia completed the top three in 2:04.38.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 IM<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Darian Townsend raced to victory in 1:52.49, while Australia&#39;s Leith Brodie claimed second in 1:56.66. South Africa&#39;s Jay-Cee Thomson completed the podium with a time of 1:56.86.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 400 free<\/b><br \/>\nAustralia&#39;s Blair Evans snatched the middle distance crown in 4:02.77, while Sweden&#39;s Petra Grandlund took second in 4:05.03. Hong Kong&#39;s Stephanie Au finished third in 4:05.83 to crush her national record of 4:13.63 set last year in Stockholm.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 free<\/b><br \/>\nBrazil&#39;s Nicholas Dos Santos just missed his national record of 20.74 with a winning time of 20.75. South Africa&#39;s Roland Schoeman touched second in 20.89, while Australia&#39;s Matthew Abood took hold of third in 20.90 \u2013 also just short of his national mark of 20.89.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 breast<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa&#39;s Kathryn Meaklim won the longer distance breaststroke with a time of 2:20.52. Australia&#39;s Leisel Jones took second in 2:21.31, while teammate Sarah Katsoulis picked up third in 2:22.83.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 IM<\/b><br \/>\nThe Netherlands&#39; Hinkelien Schreuder took home the sprint medley title with a 58.32.  Australia&#39;s Emily Seebohm took second in 58.50, to beat her national record of 58.54 set in August. Great Britain&#39;s Fran Halsall took third in 58.55, downing her national mark of 58.81 set in Stockholm. Whitney Myers of the U.S. set an American record with a fourth-place time of 58.75.  That effort beat Natalie Coughlin&#39;s 58.80 set in 2002.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 back<\/b><br \/>\nRussia&#39;s Arkady Vyatchanin just missed his world record of 1:46.11 with a winning effort of 1:46.41. Australia&#39;s Daniel Blackborrow (1:54.29) and Avrton Dickey (1:56.71) also finished among the top three. <\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 fly<\/b><br \/>\nSweden&#39;s Therese Alshammar closed out the World Cup circuit with a bang as she downed her world record in the sprint fly.  Alshammar posted a time of 24.38 to beat her previous record of 24.46.  The Netherlands&#39; Inge Dekker (25.09) and Australia&#39;s Marieke Guehrer (25.14) also made the podium.
