Touching in 28.64, <\/span><b>Atkinson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">took .16 off of <\/span><b>Jessica Hardy\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">world record from 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Watch The Performance of The Week Video:<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Performance of the Week, 11\/1\/16\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TdM8Y1TY0Rw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the consistent athletes on the 2016 World Cup circuit this year, this was <\/span><b>Atkinson\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second world record of the series. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/performance-of-the-week-alia-atkinsons-world-record-tie\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She had previously tied her existing world record in the 100 breaststroke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> back in August at the Paris stop of the series, matching a mark she had already tied at the 2014 Short Course World Championships in Doha. Each world record on the World Cup circuit comes with a $10,000 bonus in prize money, which gives <\/span><b>Atkinson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an extra $10,000 in prize money on this circuit\u00a0from her 50 breaststroke world record.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Atkinson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been competitive on the international stage for over a decade. Having competed in four Olympic Games since her first in Athens in 2004, the 27-year-old Jamaican is still continuing to improve.
