DURHAM, North Carolina, November 16. THE list of divers to commit to a four-year education and career at Duke has become more impressive each year.<\/p>\n
In 2008, the Blue Devils landed Abby Johnston who, as a freshman, dove to fifth place in the nation on the three-meter board, not to mention an impressive international resume which included a bronze medal in the three-meter synchronized diving competition at the 2009 World University Games.<\/p>\n
In 2009, the men added Nick McCrory who remains undefeated through four meets and has established a stranglehold on the Duke record boards. <\/p>\n
Prior to his arrival on campus, McCrory claimed fourth place at the 2008 Olympic Trials and finished 20th at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome.<\/p>\n
And now, in 2010, the Blue Devils have signed their most high-profile recruit to date. The 4'11" platform- specialist, Haley Ishimatsu, recently signed a letter of intent to pursue an education and collegiate diving career at Duke.<\/p>\n
Ishimatsu began diving in 2002, and in 2006 she made her international debut at the age of 13. She has been an unyielding force at the Speedo National Championships. In 2005, she won a bronze medal on the one-meter board and platform at the Junior National Championships. From 2006 to 2008 she competed in the Senior National Championships, earning two gold and three silver medals.<\/p>\n
As an international competitor she has reached the podium at the Canada Cup ('07), Comunidad de Madrid ('07), Italian Grand Prix ('07), and the Pan American Games ('07). At the 2008 FINA Diving World Cup she took eighth place both as an individual on the 10-meter platform and as a member of a 10-meter synchronized pair.<\/p>\n
More recently, at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Ishimatsu took fifth place with her partner, Marybeth Dunnichay, in the 10-meter platform synchronized diving competition. She took 14th place overall as an individual on the 10-meter platform. This past summer, Ishimatsu joined McCrory at the 2009 FINA World Championships where she earned a silver medal for Team USA.<\/p>\n
Ishimatsu is planning on competing at the 2012 Summer Olympic in London, but in the interim, she will be diving and pursuing a higher education at Duke.<\/p>\n
