MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, November 14. THE second evening of short course yard finals at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Minneapolis, Minn., featured a pair of meet records for the Trojan Swim Club.<\/p>\n
Trojan's Rebecca Soni won the women's 400 IM in 4:14.41, finishing nearly a second back from Kaitlin Sandeno's meet record of 4:13.54. Gator's Stephanie Proud finished second in 4:16.98, while Washington State's Michaela Ahlin took third in 4:19.45.<\/p>\n
Trojan swept the 400 IMs as Thiago Pereira crushed the meet record in the men's race with a 3:43.72. That swim smashed the 3:51.16 set by Ian Clark back in 2007. Michigan's Andre Schultz finished second in 3:49.66, also under the previous meet mark. Pine Crest's Bradley Ally touched third in 3:54.23.<\/p>\n
Manta's Chantal Vanlandeghem, 15, won the women's 50 free title in 23.18, while Washington State's Rugile Mileisyte finished second in 23.30. Swim Florida's Erika Erndl wound up third in 23.60. <\/p>\n
A pair of 19s went up on the board from California in the men's 50 free. Will Copeland won in 19.73, off his meet record of 19.31 from last year. Teammate Bennett Clark touched second in 19.98. Jason Dunford completed the podium in 20.10.<\/p>\n
Soni captured her second title and first meet record of the evening with a smoking time of 2:07.68 in the women's 200 breast. She crushed Keri Hehn's meet record of 2:10.48 set back in 2007. Santa Barbara's Katy Freeman also beat the previous mark with a 2:08.50 for second place, while Minnesota's Jillian Tyler took third in 2:12.91.<\/p>\n
Just like teammate Soni, Pereira put together a 400 IM\/200 breast double. Pereira won in 1:56.44, just off Adam Ritter's meet standard of 1:56.40 from 2007. Tucson Ford's Mike Alexandrov finished second in 1:57.71, while Longhorn's Matthew Lowe placed third in 2:01.56.<\/p>\n
Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon, 15, touched out Proud, 55.44 to 55.49, for the women's 100 back crown. Vanlandeghem, also 15, placed just behind with a third-place time of 55.68.<\/p>\n
Daytona Beach's Record Tullius won the men's 100 back in 48.17, while Michigan's Schultz took second in 48.45. Patrick Schirk completed the top three in 48.52. Notably, Tucson Ford's Simon Burnett won the B final with a 48.97.<\/p>\n
The Fish's Kate Ziegler held off a hard-charging Chloe Sutton of Mission Viejo, 4:41.52 to 4:41.61, in the women's 500 free. Brandon, fresh off winning the 100 back, took third overall in 4:46.82. <\/p>\n
Longhorn's Michael Klueh captured the men's 500 free title in 4:20.34. Michigan's Adam DeJong placed second in 4:26.40, while teammate Hassaan Abdel Khalik finished third in 4:29.20. Notably, Pereira won the B final in 4:24.54.<\/p>\n
In the mixed 200 free multi-disability event, Blake Adams posted a 2:16.57. Alex Dionne (2:16.98) and Mallory Weggemann (2:23.25) also completed the event. Krista Pyllkki (3:11.82) and Claire Forrest (3:21.50) were part of the event as well.<\/p>\n
Minnesota's Hannah Whitehead, Jillian Tyler, Kaylee Jamison and Marissa Davies won the women's 400 medley relay with a meet-record time of 3:43.30. The readout cleared the 3:44.44 set by nearly the same team last year, with Davies subbing for Stacy Busack on the anchor leg. Michigan's Alon Mandel, Neal Kennedy, Chris Brady and Evan Ryser won the men's 400 medley relay in 3:15.33.
