Touching in 46.61 in Singapore, <\/span><b>Chalmers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">continued to establish his legacy as the future of sprint freestyle by breaking the existing standard for the junior world record. Prior to the Aussie\u2019s performance, the record had no name attached. FINA had set <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fina-short-course-world-junior-records\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">benchmark times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when they established the junior world record system, which put no name next to the record until those benchmarks were surpassed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Chalmers&#8217;\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new junior world record was only good enough to get second in that event behind <\/span><b>Vladimir Morozov, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the current world cup leader this year. <\/span><b>Chalmers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">did nab his first world cup gold medal in the 200 freestyle, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-fina-world-cup-singapore-day-two-finals-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touching in 1:42.67<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to narrowly miss the junior world record in that event.
