Rome\u2019s mayor and city council both have expressed their support for removing the bid from the city, citing the financial burden of the Games as the major motivation behind their lack of support. This decision comes as there is mounting concern over the financial burden of the Olympic Games on host cities, including 2020 host Tokyo. With Rome out of the picture, there are only three remaining bid cities left for the 2024 Olympic Games: Los Angeles (United States), Budapest (Hungary), and Paris (France). Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week Olympic silver medalist and reigning American distance star <\/span><b>Connor Jaeger <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/connor-jaeger-effectively-retired-pursuing-manhattan-real-estate-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced he is effectively retiring from competitive swimming<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/olympics\/olympic-swimmer-is-back-from-rio-with-a-silver-medal--but-no-full-time-job\/2016\/10\/17\/f5f843f6-8a4b-11e6-bff0-d53f592f176e_story.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">feature story<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington Post<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the 25 year old explained he has moved from Ann Arbor, Michigan to Hoboken, New Jersey, where he plans to land a job related to Manhattan real estate. Ann Arbor has been <\/span><b>Jaeger\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">training base for the last six years; he graduated from Michigan in 2014 and continued training as a professional following a very successful NCAA career that included a team championship in 2013. While nobody looks capable of catching <\/span><b>Katinka Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><b>Vlad Morozov <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the top spot of the respective women\u2019s and men\u2019s leaderboards, that didn\u2019t stop Olympic gold medalist <\/span><b>Kyle Chalmers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from posting a world junior record in the 100 freestyle. <\/span><b>Chalmers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched in 46.61 to finish second behind points leader <\/span><b>Morozov, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breaking the world junior record in the process (the Aussie will turn 19 in June 2017). <\/span><b>Chalmers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">went on to win the 200 free the next day (1:42.67) for his first World Cup gold medal, narrowly missing the world junior record in that event. Other notable swims included Jamaican <\/span><b>Alia Atkinson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 50 and 100 breaststrokes, who was just off the world records in both events. The Jamacian<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was only a tenth off of <\/span><b>Jessica Hardy\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">world record in the 50 breaststroke when she touched in 28.91 and only four-one hundredths off her own world record in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.40). Alumni, former coach <\/span><b>Mark Stromberg<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, current Head Coach <\/span><b>Chris Maiello<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and CSCAA Executive Director <\/span><b>Joel Shinofield<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were all instrumental in advocating for the program\u2019s survival. The Olympic gold medalist then came back in the 500 freestyle to touch first and break an eight-year-old pool record held by <\/span><b>Julia Smit<\/b>.<b>\u00a0Ledecky <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched in 4:36.43 to break the old record by more than five seconds. That time also comes close to <\/span><b>Janet Evans <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">legendary 26-year-old school record of 4:34.49 and places <\/span><b>Ledecky <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second all-time in Stanford\u2019s top times. <\/span><strong>Manuel<\/strong>,<b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">herself an Olympic gold medalist in Rio,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had a pool record of her own this weekend in the 100 freestyle. Returning to the home pool after redshirting last year, <\/span><b>Manuel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched in 48.00 to take down teammates <\/span><b>Lia Neal\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">record of 48.43.
