It was one of the most anticipated dual meets of the early season.<\/p>\n

Florida was coming off a close rivalry win over Florida State. The Gators are ranked No. 3 in the men’s rankings and No. 9 in the women’s poll.<\/p>\n

In Saturday’s half of its two-day double-dual meet, the Florida men (1-4) were swept by No. 8 Indiana 204-77 and No. 1 Texas 182-99, with the women (1-4) also losing 183-98 to No. 13 Indiana and 191-85 to No. 7 Texas.<\/p>\n

The Gators again swept the 200 IM. Mark Szaranek<\/strong> repeated on the men’s side, touching out at 1:46.48, while Kay Sargent took the title for the women at 2:03.85.<\/p>\n

UF’s women swam a different lineup for the 400 free relay, sending out Sherridon Dressel, Amelia Maughan, Elisavet Panti<\/strong> and Kelly Fertel<\/strong> to win at 3:26.31.<\/p>\n

In the 200 free, Jan Switkowski<\/strong>‘s time of 1:36.24 passed the NCAA provisional standard. He (1:48.49) and Szaranek (1:46.48) also passed the B-standard in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n

Tennessee sweeps North Carolina<\/strong><\/p>\n

Behind 11 individual victories and four relay wins Saturday, the Tennessee swimming and diving team outpaced North Carolina on the second day of the meet for a sweep in the season opener.<\/p>\n

The Tennessee men collected eight more wins on the second day of the meet to finish with 14 first-place finishes in a 216-156 victory over the Tar Heels. The Tennessee women won seven events Saturday to end with 12 overall in the 205-167 win.<\/p>\n

Junior Sam McHugh<\/strong> led the way with four total individual victories with two of them coming on Saturday. He won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9 minutes, 5.54 seconds, and then took first in the 400 individual medley in an NCAA B-cut time of 3:51.69. He also won the 200 IM and the 200 butterfly.<\/p>\n

On the women’s side, senior Colleen Callahan<\/strong> was a three-race winner for Tennessee. After winning the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke Friday, she added a win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:18.15.<\/p>\n

Texas A&M sweeps Incarnate Word<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Texas A&M men and women swept Incarnate Word with both teams rolling to 182-105 victories over the Cardinals.<\/p>\n

The Aggies were led by newcomers Newcomers logging wins for the men’s team included redshirt freshman Jake Gibbons<\/strong>, who transferred from Yale, in the 1,000 free (9:44.50), freshman Anthony Kim in the 100 backstroke (49.78), freshman Adam Koster<\/strong> in the 100 free (45.69), freshman Mike Thibert<\/strong> in the 500 free (4:42.09), freshman Benjamin Walker<\/strong> in the 400 IM (4:01.60) and freshman Raiz Tjon-A-Joe<\/strong> in the 200 breast (2:06.61).<\/p>\n

Women’s squad newcomers winning races were freshman Katie Portz in the 100-yard freestyle (51.46) and 200 free (1:49.73), redshirt freshman Raena Eldridge<\/strong> in the 50 free (23.72) and freshman Kaley Batten<\/strong> in the 3-meter dive (277.70).<\/p>\n

It was the return of junior Franko Jonker<\/strong> and senior Ashley McGregor<\/strong> to action after redshirting last season while training for the 2016 Olympic Games. Jonker swept both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes (1:02.24 and 2:14.18), while McGregor was third in the 100 breast and second in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
