This is because when FINA began recognizing short course meter records in January of 2015 they simply set \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fina-short-course-world-junior-records\/\" target=\"_blank\">benchmarks<\/a>\u201d for times. As those benchmark times are bypassed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/sites\/default\/files\/wr_jr_jul_28_2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">record book<\/a> begins to fill with names.<\/p>\n<p>Chalmers made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where he out-swam the competition in the men&#8217;s 100 free to claim Olympic gold.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0Kyle Chalmers,\u00a018, executed his debut onto the FINA World Cup stage in record fashion with a new World Junior record in the men&#8217;s 100 free.
