TEMPE, Arizona, October 22. THE UNLV swimming and diving teams split a dual meet at Arizona State on Saturday afternoon, as the Rebel men (2-1) posted a 178-116 victory over the Sun Devils, while UNLV's women (0-3) dropped a 197-100 decision to ASU.<\/p>\n
On the men's side, UNLV continued to show off its impressive depth this season as seven different Rebels combined to win 10 events. As a team, the Rebels won 12 of the 14 swimming events, with the other two wins coming in the relays.<\/p>\n
A trio of double-event winners led the way. Cody Roberts won the 100 back in a time of 51.05 and the 100 fly in 49.29, Giacomo Gremizzi placed first in the 200 free (1:42.29) and the 200 IM (1:53.73), and Steven Nelms claimed the sprint free events, with times of 20.56 in the 50 free and 45.65 in the 100 free.<\/p>\n
Other wins on the day came from Matt Roe in the 1000 free (9:34.46), David Szele in the 100 breast (56.90), Balint Batka in the 200 fly (1:49.98), and Andrew Morrell in the 200 breast (2:06.61). The 200 medley relay team of Charlie Tapp, Szaele, Roberts and Nelms touched first in 1:29.95. Coleman Allen, Bart Wanot, Tapp and Nelms posted a winning time of 3:04.07 in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n
Brittany Ozar turned in the best performance from the women's squad, as she placed second in the 200 back in a timeof 2:04.60, and also won the 200 IM in 2:09.69, in an event the Sun Devils exhibitioned. ASU also exhibitioned the 400 free relay, won by UNLV with a time of 3:32.44. Other top performances on the day came from Marley Prothero, third in both the 100 and 200 breast, Jessica Marsh, third in the 5000 and 1000 free, and Mariah Skeen, who was third on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.<\/p>\n
The next action for both teams will be on Friday, Nov. 4 against BYU in Provo, Utah at 4 pm (PT).<\/p>\n
