Feb. 21. THE NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY women successfully defended their title while the Drexel University men's team won its first crown since 1993 at the America East Swimming and Diving Championships at Stanley M. Wallace Pool. The three-day event concluded Sunday, Feb. 18, on the University of Maine campus. <\/p>\n
The Northeastern women finished with 706 points followed by University of Delaware (550), University of New Hampshire (511), Towson University (473), Boston University (455), Maine (423), Drexel (264) and University of Vermont (123). <\/p>\n
The Drexel men totaled 809.50 points. Towson was second with 621 followed by Delaware (589). Boston University was fourth with 495, followed by New Hampshire (407), Maine (289.50) and Vermont (171). <\/p>\n
The Huskies, who led Delaware by 146 points after Day II, won one event on Sunday as the 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomores Jessica LaSalle, Kelly Colburn, Jill Vance and senior Jennifer Bradley won in an America East record 3:30.43 in the final women's event of the championship. <\/p>\n
Delaware freshman Meghan Petry set an America East record in the 1,650-freestyle with a time of 17:02.99. <\/p>\n
Maine junior Krystal Fogler won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.17, one-tenth of a second off her America East record time of last season. Black Bear teammate Katrine Alcaide, who on Friday won the 50-yard freestyle, captured the 100-yard freestyle in 52.64. <\/p>\n
New Hampshire junior Kristin Zeimetz won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.26. It was the third-straight year Zeimetz had won that event. <\/p>\n
Boston University sophomore Karissa Lopez set an America East record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.44. Northeastern's freshman Emily White was second in 2:04.47. <\/p>\n
Drexel senior Matt Carr won his second event with a 46.35 in the 100-yard freestyle. The Dragons also picked up 63 team points in the three-meter diving as freshman Anthony Perry won the event with 551 points followed by sophomore teammate Kevin Coogan with 528.80 points. Dragon senior Jason Golumbfskie and freshman Ken Keeley finished fifth and seventh, respectively. <\/p>\n
Towson freshman Aaron Krause set a championship record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.46. New Hampshire junior Tom Reynolds won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:07.50. Reynolds' teammate, Jeffrey Graves, won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.79. <\/p>\n
Boston University won the 400-yard freestyle relay with senior Jason Ellow, Graves, freshman Jay Toutant and junior David Rosado combining for a time of 3:08.93. <\/p>\n
Northeastern's Katie Mailman, who won the one-meter diving competition and was second in the three-meter diving was named the Women's Outstanding Diver. <\/p>\n
Maine's Krystal Fogler, who won the 100-yard backstroke in an America East record 57.98 and also won the 200-yard backstroke a tenth-of-a-second of her own record pace, was named the Women's Outstanding Swimmer for the second-straight year. Fogler also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and was part of Maine's school-record 200-yard freestyle relay team. She earned a championship high 57 points for the Black Bears. <\/p>\n
Northeastern's Roy Coates was named Women's Swimming Coach for the second-straight year. The Huskies' Brad Snodgrass was the Women's Diving Coach of the Year. <\/p>\n
Delaware senior Mike Gallaher, who earned 52 points for the Blue Hens was named the Men's Outstanding Swimmer. <\/p>\n
Drexel's Kevin Coogan, who won the one-meter diving and was second in the three-meter diving, was named the Men's Outstanding Diver. <\/p>\n
