Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n South Africa’s\u00a0Chad le Clos\u00a0<\/strong>charged ahead of the competition in finals of the men’s 100 fly, posting a final time of 52.69 to better his prelims time of 55.44.<\/p>\n Mohamed Samy<\/strong> of Egypt took second with a time of 54.91, while South Africa’s\u00a0Alard Basson\u00a0<\/strong>slipped to third with a 55.05.<\/p>\n Zamibia’s\u00a0Ralph Goveia<\/strong> took fourth overall with a 55.46, followed closely by Egypt’s\u00a0Hassan Yasser<\/strong> and his time of 55.68.<\/p>\n Morocco’s\u00a0Nouamane Battahi<\/strong> (57.41), Algeria’s\u00a0Lounis Khendriche\u00a0<\/strong>(57.90), and Mauritius’\u00a0Mathieu Marquet<\/strong> (58.84) finished sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n Caitlin Kat<\/strong> and\u00a0Rebecca Meder<\/strong>, both of South Africa, continued to battle for the top spot in finals of the women’s 200 free. The two delivered times .09 seconds apart with Kat claiming the gold. Kat stopped the clock at a 2:06.07 over Meder’s 2:06.16.<\/p>\n Algeria’s\u00a0Souad Nefissa Cheroua\u00a0<\/strong>maintained her spot at third with a time of 2:07.51.<\/p>\n Alexus Laird\u00a0<\/strong>of Seychelles finished fourth overall with a time of 2:11.70, while Angola’s\u00a0Ana Nobrega<\/strong> touched fifth with a 2:15.04.<\/p>\n Namibia’s\u00a0Kiara Schatz<\/strong> (2:15.57), Senegal’s\u00a0Jeanne Boutbien\u00a0<\/strong>(2:17.66), and Mauritius’\u00a0Layne Lim Ah Tock\u00a0<\/strong>(2:24.15) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n The men’s 400 IM was swum as a timed final with only four athletes participating.<\/p>\n Of the four, South Africa’s\u00a0Ayrton S. Sweeney\u00a0<\/strong>took first with a final time of 4:27.80.<\/p>\n The field narrowed after Sweeney with Egypt’s\u00a0Ahmed Hamdy\u00a0<\/strong>posting a 4:30.22 for second, followed by South Africa’s\u00a0Neil Fair<\/strong> and his time of 4:31.41.<\/p>\n Algeria’s\u00a0Ramzi Chouchar<\/strong> completed the short heat with a 4:37.86.<\/p>\n South Africa delivered a 1-2 punch in timed finals of the women’s 200 breaststroke.\u00a0Kaylene Corbett<\/strong> led the six-member heat with a 2:33.09 to claim gold, while 14-year-old, the youngest in the field,\u00a0Hanim Abrhams\u00a0<\/strong>threw down a 2:36.57 for the silver.<\/p>\n Rowaida Hesham\u00a0<\/strong>of South Africa took third with a 2:41.71, followed by Namibia’s\u00a0Antonia Roth<\/strong> and her time of 2:48.39.<\/p>\n Angola’s\u00a0Maria Cipcic\u00a0<\/strong>and Botswana’s\u00a0Bonita Imsirovic<\/strong> finished fifth and sixth respectively with times of 2:59.58 and 3:00.07.<\/p>\n South Africa’s King of Breaststroke,\u00a0Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong>, scorched the competition into finals of the men’s 50 breaststroke with a new championship record. Van der Burgh stopped the clock at a 28.05 to lower the 2008 championship record of 28.38.<\/p>\n Teammate\u00a0Michael Houlie<\/strong> finished second with a 28.63, while third was picked up by Egypt’s\u00a0Ahmed Shamlool<\/strong> (28.92).<\/p>\n Abdul Khadre Mbaya Ni\u00a0<\/strong>of Senegal turned in a 29.55, just ahead of Egypt’s\u00a0Hassan Yasser’s\u00a0<\/strong>29.56.<\/p>\n Zimbabwe’s\u00a0James Lawson<\/strong> (29.75), Morocco’s\u00a0Ahmed Reda Ennaim\u00a0<\/strong>(30.46), and Zambia’s\u00a0Alex Axiotis\u00a0<\/strong>(30.90) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n Nathania van Niekerk<\/strong> of South Africa delivered the top time in timed finals of the women’s 50 fly, stopping the clock at a 28.15, more than a second ahead of the competition.<\/p>\n Fellow South African\u00a0Lesley Blignaut\u00a0<\/strong>took second overall with a 29.23, while Egypt’s\u00a0Mariam Sakr\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a 29.42.<\/p>\n Annah Auckburaullee\u00a0<\/strong>of Mauritius posted a 30.22 for fourth, followed by Angola’s\u00a0Ana Nobrega<\/strong> and her time of 30.30.<\/p>\n Namibia’s\u00a0Kiara Schatz<\/strong> (30.34), Egypt’s\u00a0Rowan El Badry\u00a0<\/strong>(30.46), and Mozambique’s\u00a0Layla Suneira Taquidir<\/strong> (33.34) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n Marwan Elamrawy\u00a0<\/strong>of Egypt turned in the top time in a small men’s 800 free field, stopping the clock at a final time of 8:13.07.<\/p>\n Picking up second was South Africa’s\u00a0Brent Szurdoki\u00a0<\/strong>with a final 8:14.75, followed by teammate\u00a0Josh Dannhauser\u00a0<\/strong>and his time of 8:18.57.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Everything you need to follow along live with day two finals of the 2016 CANA African Swimming Championships.
