{"id":225237,"date":"2016-10-14T10:41:38","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T17:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=225237"},"modified":"2016-10-14T10:41:38","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T17:41:38","slug":"mission-viejos-marguerite-aquatics-center-approved-for-10-million-in-renovations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mission-viejos-marguerite-aquatics-center-approved-for-10-million-in-renovations\/","title":{"rendered":"Mission Viejo&#8217;s Marguerite Aquatics Center Approved For $10 Million In Renovations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, Thursday, October 13th, the Mission Viejo city council unanimously approved an approximate $10 million\u00a0in contracts to renovate the Marguerite Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n<p>The city council originally\u00a0approved a motion to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mission-viejo-city-council-approves-facility-renovation\/\" target=\"_blank\">fully renovate the facilities in June 2015<\/a>, which was then presented with a price tag of approximately $7.8\u00a0million. The price, however, has risen with the city council of Mission Viejo approving an $8.5 million contract to Construct 1 Corp. of Tustin and another $2.3 million for project management and other renovation costs.<\/p>\n<p>In a report by\u00a0<em>The OC Register<\/em> renovations could begin as soon as this coming Monday, and will be giving the aquatics center a new dive tower, new dive office, new swim school office, and a complete face list for the pool deck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Schubert<\/strong>, who recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mark-schubert-mission-viejo\/\" target=\"_blank\">announced his return to Mission Viejo<\/a> as Associate Head Coach, explained to\u00a0<em>Swimming World,<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div id=\"m_8860446170813839431AppleMailSignature\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The support of the Mission Viejo City Counsel confirms the fact that the City of Mission Viejo takes great pride in The Nadadores Swim team and their accomplishments.\u00a0The Marguerite Center will be one of the outstanding facilities in the US capable of hosting major international events.\u00a0Important to the City is the fact that this Center will serve swimmers of all ages, Learn to Swim, Age Group, Masters, and Olympic level!&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Schubert first began coaching at Mission Viejo in 1972, the year Marguerite Aquatics Center was first opened, leading the Nadadores for a successful 13 years. Under his tutelage the team grew from a group of 50 to 500.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor\u00a0Pro Tem\u00a0<strong>Wendy Bucknum<\/strong>\u00a0commented, &#8220;I think it&#8217;s safe to say that when you invest in your community, it&#8217;s pretty amazing what will happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kimberly Barnes<\/strong>, a member of the Nadadores board, added, &#8220;We see a bright future for our team.
