Mid-Distance Freestyler Sam Medlin<\/strong> has given her verbal commitment to the University of Houston, and will begin swimming there in the 2017-18 season. \u00a0Medlin is a senior at Green Hope High School in Cary, NC. \u00a0At the 2016 NCHAA 4A State Championships she helped to earn the GHHS women 2<\/span>nd<\/span> place overall by placing second in the 200 free (1:50.02) and third in the 100 (51.71). \u00a0\u00a0She also contributed in the third place 200 free relay and 400 free relay, which placed second. \u00a0Earning these points lead to Medlin being named MVP for Green Hope. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Medlin swims for the year-round team YOTA under the well renowned Coach Chad Onken. \u00a0Under Coach Onken she has achieved a Winter Juniors cut in the 200 freestyle as well as many other personal bests throughout her junior year. \u00a0Medlin finaled in the 200 free at the 2016 YMCA Short Course Nationals, and contributed to the 200, 400, and 800 free relays. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Medlin should definitely contribute to Houston\u2019s team when she begins in 2017. \u00a0Her best times would have scored in the A-finals in the 200 free and B-finals in the 100 free at the American Athletic Conference Championships last year. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The freestyler explained, \u201cThe University of Houston felt like home to me, and the team and coaching staff felt like family. \u00a0I can\u2019t wait to join the Cougar family and swim under Coach Ryan and Coach Hannah nest year. \u00a0Go Coogs!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
