RALEIGH, North Carolina, October 31. THE NC State women's swimming and diving team beat both Campbell (217-60) and Richmond (181-102) in a tri-meet at Casey Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 31. The victories push the Wolfpack to 3-1 (1-1 ACC) on the young season.<\/p>\n
Wolfpack swimmers and divers placed first in 11 of 16 events on the day,
\nculminating in 13 top-3 times\/scores for the year. Hannah Hopkins also
\nqualified for the NCAA diving zones with her performance in the 3-meter
\ndive.<\/p>\n
Pack relays competed in both the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays for
\nthe first time on the year, recording the best time on the day in both
\nevents. Morgan Robertson, Meg Thompson, Patrice Dason and Ashley Richter
\nwon the 200-medley with a 1:45.97, while Allison Hendren, Brianna
\nGrover, Erica Waters and Richter's 1:36.44 was the top time in the
\n200-freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
Marifrances Henley (10:22.66) and Jessica McBroom (10:34.03) took the
\ntop two spots in the 1000 freestyle, posting the second and third
\nfastest marks on the year in the event. Hendren, Grover, Maresa-Like
\nMathews and Sarah Merritt then swept the top four spots in the 200
\nfreestyle, with Hendren's 1:52.87 serving as the second-quickest finish
\non the team this year.<\/p>\n
Robertson (58.25) and Dason (58.58) took second and third in the 100
\nbackstroke, with Dason's time ranking third on the season. Anna
\nLinkenauger then recorded the top 100 breaststroke for the Pack this
\nyear with a 1:05.41 to win the event, while Jessica Ward, Jessica
\nStewart and Tracy Rorer rounded out the top four. Jen Kopenitz (2:04.63)
\nand Maggie McEnerney (2:08.06) placed first and second in the 200
\nbutterfly, with Kopenitz swimming the second-best 200 butterfly on the
\nteam thus far into the year. Richter followed that performance by
\nwinning the 50 freestyle on a 24.01.<\/p>\n
Kirstyn Shepler (221.15) and Hopkins (219.25) placed first and second in
\nthe 1-meter dive, with Hopkins later qualifying for the NCAA diving
\nzones by winning the 3-meter dive with a 273.70 \u2013 tops on the team this
\nseason. Shepler's 255.10 in the 3-meter dive stands as second-best.<\/p>\n
Dason (52.31), Richter (52.44) and Waters (53.63) placed second, third
\nand fourth respectively in the 100 freestyle, while Kopenitz grabbed the
\ntop spot with a 2:02.95 in the 200 backstroke. The Pack once again took
\nthe first four finishes in the 200 breaststroke thanks to Ward
\n(2:21.36), Christina McCann (2:21.40), Stewart (2:24.68) and Kristin
\nEsplin (2:26.44). McCann's swim was the third-quickest this season.<\/p>\n
Hendren's 5:04.67 won the 500 freestyle and is the third-fastest on the
\nteam this year, while Merritt placed second with a 5:06.62. Linkenauger
\n(57.18), Alli Hagan (58.34) and Like-Mathews (58.54) took second, third
\nand fourth in the 100 butterfly, with Linkenauger's mark serving as
\nsecond-best on the season. Thompson (2:10.48) and Dason (2:10.76) had
\nthe best two showings in the 200 IM,<\/p>\n
Both the NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will
\nreturn to the pool at Davidson on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 12 noon.<\/p>\n
