PROVO, Utah, October 30. THE UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving team split its season-opener on Friday night, with the Rebel men claiming a 171-122 victory at BYU, while the UNLV women’s squad was handed a 213-87 loss at the hands of the Cougar women. <\/p>\n
On the men’s side, UNLV won an impressive 12 of 16 events on the night, and showed off the team’s impressive depth as the Rebels had a total of seven different individual event winners. Three Rebels were double-event winners, Kier Maitland in the 500 (4:32.37) and 1000 free (9:19.91), Michael Lowenstein in the 100 (52.23) and 200 back (2:25.59), and Andrew Morrell in the breast events (57.45 in the 100, and 2:07.24 in the 200). Also winning events on the night was David Seiler in the 200 fly (1:53.23), Charles Tapp in the 50 free (21.11), Steven Nelms in the 100 free (47.01) and Cody Roberts in the 100 fly (49.78). UNLV swept both relays, with Seiler, Morrell, Roberts, and Thomas Andolfsson winning the 200 medley in 1:31.47. Kyle Virva, Tapp, Calan Eldridge, and Nelms teamed up to touch first in the 400 free in 3:06.25. <\/p>\n
UNLV won one event in the women’s competition, as Marley Prothero took the 200 breast in 2:25.59. The Rebels also posted six second place finishes, with Marva Harpak taking runner-up in the 100 and 200 free. Also with second-place finishes on the night was Anya Crawford in the 200 back, Brittany Ozar in the 100 back, Rachelle Zuccaro in the 1m diving and Kelsey Clarke in the 200 breast. <\/p>\n
UNLV remains in the state of Utah to take on the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City on Saturday at 12 pm.<\/p>\n
