GAINESVILLE, Florida, October 30. THE Georgia swimming and diving teams split their dual meets with Florida on Friday at the O’Connell Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The Lady Bulldogs ran their record to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC with a 137-104 victory over the Lady Gators. In the men’s meet, the Bulldogs (0-2, 0-1 SEC) dropped a 139-104 decision.<\/p>\n
“Our kids did a great job today,” Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. “Our ladies were really good today. That’s a great Florida team, and to get a win down here is no small feat. We won 10 of the 11 swimming events, and I couldn’t be happier about that. Our men did much better than a week ago (against North Carolina). They are a work in progress, and it’s going to take a little time to be as good as they are going to be at the end of the season.”<\/p>\n
Allison Schmitt was a double winner for the Lady Bulldogs, taking the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.02 and the 500 freestyle in 4:44.72. Wendy Trott claimed the 1,000 freestyle in 9:43.94, while Anne-Marie Botek won the 50 freestyle in 22.61 and Morgan Scroggy claimed the 100 freestyle in 49.82.<\/p>\n
Jana Mangimelli stopped the clock in 2:00.20 to win the 200 individual medley. Annie Broome’s time of 1:58.73 was tops in the 200 butterfly. Sara Nicponski claimed the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.83. Lauren English, Nicponski, Lisa Caprioglio and Megan Romano teamed up to win the 400 medley relay in 3:40.18.<\/p>\n
For the Bulldogs, Troyden Prinsloo led the way as he won the 500 freestyle in 4:27.80 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:08.32. Craig Jennings went 20.59 to win the 50 freestyle, while Bill Cregar’s 2:04.42 in the 200 breaststroke was the top time. Owen Blank won the 3-meter springboard competition with 356.93 points.<\/p>\n
Georgia will return to action on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Emory at Gabrielsen Natatorium.<\/p>\n
