Hines is a very well rounded swimmer from Lenoir City, Tennessee. He swims for Tennessee Aquatics and attends L&amp;N Stem Academy. Hines is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.<\/p>\n<p>Hines told\u00a0<em>Swimming World<\/em>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I chose Virginia Tech for the renowned engineering school, energized coaching staff, and unrivaled team atmosphere. The city of Blacksburg is beautiful and I can&#8217;t wait to spend the next 4 years of my life as a Hokie!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His best times are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 IM 1:49.98<\/li>\n<li>400 IM 3:58.56<\/li>\n<li>100 Breast 57.07<\/li>\n<li>200 Breast 2:04.06<\/li>\n<li>100 Free 45.41<\/li>\n<li>200 Free 1:38.62<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hines has\u00a0seen impressive recent improvement across the board. He&#8217;s dropped nine seconds in his top event, the 200 IM, since his freshman year, including three last season. In the 400 IM he knocked off seven seconds last year. Hines swam the 200 free, 200 IM, and 100 and 200 breaststrokes at Winter Junior Nationals (East) last year. At the <a href=\"http:\/\/swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2016-tennessee-high-school-state-championships\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Tennessee High School State Championships<\/a> he finished runner up in the 200 IM (1:51.31) and 500 freestyle (4:32.25).<\/p>\n<p>Hines still has a little work to do to move into <a href=\"http:\/\/swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2016-acc-mens-championships\" target=\"_blank\">ACC<\/a> scoring range, but he&#8217;s been on an upward trajectory.\u00a0The Hokies have some recent IM success, producing 2016 200 IM Champion\u00a0<strong>Brandon Fiala<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>Robert Owen\u00a0<\/strong>also joined him in the A final last year.\u00a0<strong>Sean Workman\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.46) was a C finalist last year, and will be a junior when Hines gets to Blacksburg. Fiala also won the 200 breaststroke last year.
