BOULDER, Colorado, October 25. DUAL meets are in full swing, and a handful of teams used the racing opportunities this weekend to their full advantage. Swimmers from a bevy of conferences posted some of the top swims thus far this season. <\/p>\n
On Friday, Georgia took on North Carolina in Athens, with Bulldog Wendy Trott grabbing a pair of impressive victories in the 1,000 (9:46.19) and 500 free (4:48.33), both among the nation's fastest times. Lisa Caprioglio posted a sterling 53.96 in the 100 fly and also helped Georgia's 200 medley relay team to a 1:41.16 for the win.<\/p>\n
At the Southwest Collegiate Plunge, Texas Olympian Ricky Berens asserted his dominance by winning the 100 fly (48.35) and 100 back (48.71); Berens' back time was good enough to clear the B-cut, while his fly time just missed by .01.<\/p>\n
Auburn and LSU squared off in Baton Rouge on Friday, and Auburn's Gideon Louw once again displayed his incredible strength in the sprints. Louw touched first in the 100 free by over a second with a 44.65, well ahead of the fastest times in the event this season. Adam Klein picked up two wins in the 100 (55.50) and 200 breast (2:00.96), while Auburn's 400 free relay team swam an impressive 2:59.09 in the win. <\/p>\n
In a tri-meet with Kansas and Florida, Arkansas senior Yi-Ting Siow clobbered the fields in the 100 (1:01.63) and 200 (2:13.93) breaststrokes, both well under the NCAA B-cuts in each event. Siow looks to break into the top 16 at NCAA's this season after coming up short last year. <\/p>\n
In a meet against Oregon State on Friday, the USC Trojans showcased their depth with a trio of outstanding performances in the women's 200 fly. Katinka Hosszu won the event in 1:56.48, followed by UC-Irvine transfer Lyndsay DePaul in 1:57.49. Tanya Krisman grabbed third in 1:59.90. Hosszu also won the 1,000 free and 200 back at the meet, while freshman Christel Simms doubled in the 50 and 100 freestyles. <\/p>\n
The SMU Classic in Dallas featured quality times as well, headlined by Wisconsin duo Ashley Wanland and Maggie Meyer. Wanland won both breaststrokes in NCAA provisional times of 1:02.33 and 2:13.05, while Meyer posted B-cuts in the 100 (54.07) and 200 (1:57.92) backstrokes. Florida's Jemma Lowe, Shara Stafford and Teresa Crippen each won two events apiece, pacing the Gators to the team title. <\/p>\n
In Division II action, Grand Valley State swimmers had a strong meet against Lewis and Hillsdale. Kim Baughman and Kelsey Vermeer went 1-2 in the 50 free, finishing in times of 24.70 and 24.76, respectively. In the 100 breast, Toni Musto led a 1-2-3 Grand Valley sweep with a time of 1:08.91. Lauren Dorsey and Sam Stump finished second (1:09.71) and third (1:10.97). Matt Witkowski won both the 100 (47.64) and 200 (1:44.34) freestyles for the men. <\/p>\n
Division III Emory University had an outstanding meet against Davidson, posting several fast times. April Whitley's performances in the 100 breast (1:05.85) and 200 breast (2:24.43) stood out for the women. For Davidson, Lindsey Martin won the 50 free with a speedy 24.06, and Geoffery Peitz picked up a convincing win in the 200 back (1:54.53).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
