Currently, the record sits at a 45.46 set in \u00a02009 by Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Abood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong> maintained his spot at second with a 46.00 showing, while Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katsumi Nakamura<\/strong> finished third with a 46.83.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese teammate\u00a0<strong>Shinri Shioura<\/strong> posted fourth with a 47.42, while Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Pieter Timmers\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth with a 47.53.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Proud<\/strong> (48.84), Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrii Khloptsov<\/strong> (48.95), and Uzbekistan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aleksey Tarasenko\u00a0<\/strong>(49.32) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> of Hungary maintained her spot atop the leaderboard in finals of the women&#8217;s 200 free. Hosszu delivered a final time of 1:53.29 to claim her first gold medal of the Doha stop.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Madeline Groves<\/strong> and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos\u00a0<\/strong>held a tight race for the remaining two spots on the podium. Groves got her hand to the wall first to claim second with a 1:54.46 over Jakabos&#8217; 1:54.67.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese duo of\u00a0<strong>Fang Yi<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Cao Yue\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth and fifth with times of 1:57.03 and 2:05.03 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lucy Agnew\u00a0<\/strong>(2:05.92) and\u00a0<strong>Greta Agnew<\/strong> (2:07.65) posted sixth and seventh place, ahead of Malta&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Francesca Falzon Young\u00a0<\/strong>(2:09.39).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Felipe Lima<\/strong> dashed to first in finals of the men&#8217;s 50 breaststroke, stopping the clock at a 26.14.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Giulio Zorzi<\/strong> took second with a 26.47, while China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Li Xiang\u00a0<\/strong>and South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Roland Schoeman\u00a0<\/strong>delivered close times of 26.71 and 26.79 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow South African\u00a0<strong>Bradley Tandy<\/strong> posted the final sub-27 second swim at a 26.95 for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Y. Elkamash\u00a0<\/strong>(27.51), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> (28.09), and South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jan Christian Bequidenhout\u00a0<\/strong>(28.29) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Breast<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Alia Atkinson\u00a0<\/strong>of Jamaica re-claimed her title in the women&#8217;s 100 breaststroke after passing the baton to the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Meili\u00a0<\/strong>last week. Atkinson held off a charging\u00a0<strong>Yulia Efimova\u00a0<\/strong>to claim gold with a 1:03.18.<\/p>\n<p>Efimova settled for second with a 1:03.27, while Meili took third with a 1:03.90.<\/p>\n<p>After leading the field through prelims Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rie Kaneto\u00a0<\/strong>slipped to fourth with a 1:04.59, ahead of the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Breeja Larson<\/strong> and her time of 1:05.63.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tessa Wallace<\/strong> (1:06.55), Slovakia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrea Podmanikova<\/strong> (1:07.07), and the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Liz Roberts\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.66) finished sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeanette Ottesen\u00a0<\/strong>clocked a 55.93 in finals of the women&#8217;s 100 fly to claim gold over the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a strong second 50-meters from<strong> Katinka Hosszu,\u00a0<\/strong>the Hungarian was unable to bypass Ottesen, settling for second and a time of 56.03.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Madeline Groves\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the podium with a time of 57.63, while teammate\u00a0<strong>Brittany Elmslie<\/strong> posted a fourth place finish of 58.09.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kin Lok Chan\u00a0<\/strong>of Hong Kong took fifth with a time of 58.34, while Singapore&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nicholle Toh<\/strong> was sixth with a 1:00.03.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Natalia Lovtcova<\/strong> and Argentina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniela Gonzalez Pinero\u00a0<\/strong>were seventh and eighth with times of 1:00.24 and 1:03.39 respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Back<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Bobby Hurley\u00a0<\/strong>of Australia led a strong backstroke contingent in finals of the men&#8217;s 100 back. Hurley stopped the clock at a 50.20, followed by a trio of fellow sub-51 second swims.<\/p>\n<p>Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Pavel\u00a0Yankovich\u00a0<\/strong>claimed second place with a time of 50.54, followed closely by Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Takeshi Kawamoto&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>50.65.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stanislav Donetc<\/strong> of Russia posted a 50.88 to be the only other athlete under the 51-second mark.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miguel Ortiz-Canavate<\/strong> (51.63), Colombia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Omar Pinzon Garcia<\/strong> (53.12), France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jordan Coelho<\/strong> (53.64), and Singapore&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Malcolm Low<\/strong> (56.55) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Back<\/h3>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>and Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daryna Zevina<\/strong> held a tight race for the gold in finals of the women&#8217;s 50 back. A swift reaction time from Hosszu propelled her to a quick lead over the competition and a gold medal. Hosszu clocked a 26.38 over Zevina&#8217;s 26.53.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cheng Haihua\u00a0<\/strong>of China delivered a third place finish of 27.01, while Jamaica&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson\u00a0<\/strong>was fourth with a 28.19.<\/p>\n<p>Slovakia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Barbora Tomanova\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth with a 28.43, followed by France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Camille Gheorghiu&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>28.55.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Li-Shan Chantal\u00a0<\/strong><b>Lieu<\/b> of Singapore and\u00a0<strong>Gabriela Nikitina\u00a0<\/strong>of Latvia posted seventh and eighth place finishes with times of 29.64 and 29.86 respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>It was a tight race for first in finals of the men&#8217;s 200 fly with the lead exchanging between Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto,<\/strong> Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Philip Heintz<\/strong>, and South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chad le Clos.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heintz jumped to an early lead turning ahead of both Seto and le Clos at the first 50-meter mark, but was unable to hold off a charging Seto. Heintz held on to second until the 150-meter mark when le Clos moved up to second and began to chase down Seto. The battle of the Olympians concluded with Seto clocking a 1:49.84 for first over le Clos&#8217; 1:49.93.<\/p>\n<p>Heintz settled for third and a final time of 1:52.03.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Smit\u00a0<\/strong>took fourth with a 2:05.67, while\u00a0<strong>Abdullah Alfalasi\u00a0<\/strong>of the United Arab Emirates was a no show for the event.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> garnered her third individual gold medal in finals of the women&#8217;s 200 IM, one of her signature events. Hosszu touched in a final time of 2:05.77, while\u00a0<strong>Yulia Efimova<\/strong> finished second overall with a 2:07.29.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Hungarian\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> touched third with a final time of 2:08.42.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zhang Jiaqi<\/strong> finished fourth overall with a time of 2:10.44, followed by Jamaica&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson<\/strong> and her time of 2:13.61.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rie Kaneto<\/strong> and Bahrain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alzain Tareq<\/strong> were sixth and seventh with times of 2:14.78 and 2:54.62.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400 Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Myles Brown<\/strong> of South Africa delivered the top time in finals of the men&#8217;s 400 free, posting a 3:39.78 to claim his first gold medal of the Doha stop.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>James Guy\u00a0<\/strong>touched second with a 3:41.96, just ahead of Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bobby Hurley\u00a0<\/strong>and his time of 3:42.44.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poul Zellmann<\/strong> of Germany finished fourth overall with a 3:43.01, while Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gergely Gyurta\u00a0<\/strong>slipped to fifth with a 3:47.71.<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Moritz Brandt<\/strong> (3:54.28), Czech Republic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jakub Karl<\/strong> (3:54.57), and South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Smit<\/strong> (4:07.09) finished sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong> earned her second gold medal of the session with a dominating win in the women&#8217;s 50 free finals. Ottesen stopped the clock at a 23.84, finishing over half a second ahead of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brittany Elmslie<\/strong> finished second overall with a 24.48, while the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Meili\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the podium with a third place finish of 24.63.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>picked up fourth with a 24.74, while\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson\u00a0<\/strong>was fifth with a 24.88.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Madeline Groves<\/strong> (25.00), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Natalia Lovtcova<\/strong> (25.40), and Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tessa Wallace<\/strong> (25.58) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Koch\u00a0<\/strong>surged to first in the men&#8217;s 200 breaststroke, clocking a final time of 2:02.13 to finish ahead of the competition by more than three seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto\u00a0<\/strong>delivered a second place finish of 2:05.91, followed by the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Prenot<\/strong> and his time of 2:06.90.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wang Boyu<\/strong> of China took fourth with a 2:07.00, while Egypt&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Y. Elkamash\u00a0<\/strong>was a fifth with a 2:13.42.<\/p>\n<p>Slovakia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Peter Durisin<\/strong> and South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael Jones<\/strong> were sixth and eighth with times of 2:14.15 and 2:20.33 respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 IM<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> claimed his second win of the day in the men&#8217;s 100 IM with a final time of 51.75. Morozov currently holds the World Record at a 50.30 from the Berlin stop of the 2016 FINA World Cup series.<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Philip Heintz\u00a0<\/strong>and Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Pavel Sankovich<\/strong> held a tight race for second, but it was Heintz who claimed the silver with a time of 52.27. Sankovich settled for the bronze with a time of 52.68.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Omar Pinzon Garcia<\/strong> of Colombia delivered a fourth place finish of 54.44, while Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong> finished fifth with a 55.22.<\/p>\n<p>Slovakia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Adam Halas<\/strong> (55.58),\u00a0<strong>Taki Mrabet<\/strong> (57.56), and\u00a0<strong>Aleksandar Lazarevic<\/strong> (59.10) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Back<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Daryna Zevina<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> continued their backstroke battles with a match-up in the 200-meter version. Unlike the 50-meter where Hosszu claimed gold, Zevina was victorious in the 200 with a final time of 2:01.25. While Hosszu had a much quicker reaction time (.61 vs. .75), Zevina quickly took charge of the race turning first at each wall.<\/p>\n<p>Hossszu settled for silver with a time of 2:01.48.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cheng Haihua<\/strong> grabbed a narrow victory over Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> with a final time of 2:07.33 over Jakabos&#8217; 2:07.65.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yin Yan Claudia Lau\u00a0<\/strong>finished fifth overall with a 2:07.85, ahead of China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Liu\u00a0<\/strong><b>Haiyan&#8217;s<\/b> 2:08.98.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lucy Agnew<\/strong> of New Zealand was seventh with a 2:13.48, followed by Slovakia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Barbora Tomanova\u00a0<\/strong>and her final time of 2:15.31.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong> picked up his first gold of the Doha stop in the men&#8217;s 50 fly with a 22.36 finish.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Proud<\/strong> and Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Takeshi Kawamoto<\/strong> rounded out the podium with times of 22.57 and 22.62 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roland Schoeman<\/strong> of South Africa was fourth with a 22.74, while Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Pavel Sankovich<\/strong> and Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrii Khloptsov\u00a0<\/strong>delivered matching times of 23.10 to tie for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bradley Tandy<\/strong> finished seventh with a 23.22, followed by Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miguel Ortiz-Canavate&#8217;s<\/strong> 23.29.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 800 Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>garnered her fourth gold of the session with a final time of 8:27.58 in the women&#8217;s 800 free.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fang Yi<\/strong> clocked a time of 8:30.29 for second, while Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> finished third with a time of 8:31.27.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spela Bohinc<\/strong> of Slovakia was fourth with a 8:33.37, ahead of China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yang Chang&#8217;s<\/strong> 8:38.93.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Liu Haiyun<\/strong> (8:45.33) and South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bianca Pera<\/strong> (9:32.01) were sixth and seventh respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400 IM<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong> of Japan topped the competition with a 4:02.39 in the men&#8217;s 400 IM, while Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Philip Heintz<\/strong> took second with a 4:04.24.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Josh Prenot\u00a0<\/strong>of the USA finished third with a 4:05.67, ahead of Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gergely Gyurta&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>4:10.27.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth went to\u00a0<strong>Taki Mrabet<\/strong> and his time of 4:25.15, followed by Serbia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aleksa Bobar\u00a0<\/strong>and his time of 4:29.26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dante Nortje<\/strong> of South Africa claimed seventh with a 4:28.76 and eighth went to Qatar&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Abdelrahman Mohamed<\/strong> (4:56.62).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everything you need to follow along live with day one finals of the 2016 FINA World Cup Series in Doha.
