This weekend will feature the first full slate of ACC action with the majority of teams in action. Dual meets, tri meets, invites and relay meets are all on the schedule for October 7-9.<\/p>\n

UPDATE 10\/7:<\/strong>\u00a0Duke and Florida State will no longer be in action this weekend after the Blue Devils\u00a0cancelled their\u00a0trip to Tallahassee in response to\u00a0Hurricane Matthew making landfall in Florida.<\/p>\n

Meet of the Week: Dennis Stark Relay Meet<\/h3>\n

Notre Dame hosts meets both Friday and Saturday, but the event at 5 p.m. Friday\u00a0is the can\u2019t-miss action this weekend. The Dennis Stark Relay meet, named in honor of Notre Dame\u2019s first coach for both its women\u2019s and men\u2019s program, features 10 swimming relays and two diving relays\u2014yes, diving relays.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame will host the men and women from IUPUI, Wright State and Olivet Navarene, as well as the Oakland men, Bowling Green women and, in their inaugural season, the Indiana State women.<\/p>\n

Events on the program include traditional events like the 200 free relay, 400 medley relay and 800 free relay, along with some more unusual relays: 3×100 of each stroke, 4×100 IM and 3×500 free.<\/p>\n

The Irish, in their first full season as a combined women’s and men’s program under the leadership of\u00a0Mike Litzinger<\/strong>, opened their season last week with an outdoor long course meet against Michigan State and Iowa in East Lansing. The Irish freshmen stood out, as\u00a0Abbie Dolan<\/strong>,\u00a0Aaron Schulz<\/strong> and\u00a0Reilly Lanigan\u00a0<\/strong>all opened their collegiate careers with individual wins.<\/p>\n

After the relay meet wraps up Friday, Indiana State and Oakland will stick around for a more\u00a0traditional meet Saturday at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere…<\/h3>\n

Two ACC powerhouses will square off with big-name opponents this weekend. The Louisville Cardinals will travel north to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a unique tripleheader. Even with the graduation of\u00a0Kelsi Worrell<\/strong>, the Louisville women figure to be strong still with\u00a0Andrea Cottrell\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Mallory Comerford<\/strong> leading the way. And the Cardinal men return their core of\u00a0Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong>,\u00a0Carlos Claverie<\/strong> and\u00a0Trevor Carroll\u00a0<\/strong>that put two medley relays in A-finals at the NCAA championships.<\/p>\n

And then there’s North Carolina, which hosts Georgia Friday afternoon in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels lost a massive group of seniors after\u00a0Rich DeSelm’s\u00a0<\/strong>teams swam so well at both ACCs and NCAAs last year, but they do have Olympic Trials finalist\u00a0Hellen Moffitt<\/strong> coming back. The Bulldogs, of course, have senior Olympic medalists\u00a0Chase Kalisz<\/strong>,\u00a0Olivia Smoliga\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Chantal van Landeghem<\/strong> on their side.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech at Florida Gulf Coast Invite<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Hokies will be migrating south to start October at the FGCU Invite.\u00a0On the men’s side, a pair of individual ACC champions from last year,\u00a0Robert Owen\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Brandon Fiala<\/strong>, lead the way, and\u00a0Klaudia Nazieblo<\/strong>, who was twice a runner-up at ACCs last year, figures to headline the IM and butterfly events this weekend while joining seniors\u00a0Maggie Gruber <\/strong>and\u00a0Jessica Hespeler<\/strong> as key scoring leaders all season.<\/p>\n

Duke & Minnesota at Florida State<\/strong><\/del><\/p>\n

The Noles are making their debut at home Saturday at 2 p.m. with a new coaching staff led by\u00a0Neal Studd<\/strong>. A\u00a0pair of seniors leading the charge on the men’s side as\u00a0Jason Grooms\u00a0<\/strong>and diver\u00a0Dylan Grisell<\/strong> both performed well at NCAAs last year. All of FSU’s women at NCAAs last year, though, were freshmen\u2014Meg Brown<\/strong>,\u00a0Summer Finke<\/strong> and\u00a0Cassidy Gebhart<\/strong>\u2014and all are coming back for more.<\/del><\/p>\n

The Blue Devils, meanwhile, will be led by juniors\u00a0Leah Goldman\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Isa Paez<\/strong>\u2014both NCAA qualifiers their first two years\u2014as well as senior sprinter\u00a0Maddie Rusch<\/strong>. For the men, breaststroker\u00a0Peter Kropp<\/strong> and Olympic Trials semifinalist\u00a0Michael Miller\u00a0<\/strong>both figure to score big points as they get their senior seasons underway.<\/del><\/p>\n

Minnesota was originally scheduled to attend, but the Golden Gophers pulled out\u00a0Thursday\u00a0with Hurricane Matthew looming. Duke, however, decided to still make the trip to Tallahassee.<\/del> Duke then announced Friday morning that the meet was off altogether. The Seminoles will wait to host Florida Thursday, while Duke will make its season debut at a quad meet at Virginia Tech Oct. 21.<\/p>\n
