RADFORD, Virginia. October 16. A pair of first place finishes from junior Sara Gardocki and a strong overall performance helped lead the College of Charleston women's swimming and diving program to a season-opening 138.50 \u2013 91.50 victory over Radford.<\/p>\n
Gardocki earned top honors in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.46) and 500-yard freestyle (5:23.20) events to pace the Cougars while sophomore Haley Horkey netted an individual victory in the 100-yard freestyle (56.87) and tied for first with sophomore teammate Caitlin Shepherd in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.44. She was also part of CofC's first-place 200-yard medley relay team (1:54.41), along with junior Megan Sayles (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and freshmen Casey Sweeney and Gracie Herlong.<\/p>\n
Sayles added an impressive first-place performance of her own with a mark of 1:03.33 in the 100-yard breaststroke while Herlong took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.19. Sophomore Clare Sweeney took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.65) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.98) while freshman Ali Leberfinger took second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.45) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.50).<\/p>\n
Junior April Coyne, freshman Jamie Redlawsk and senior Laura Brichler each had runner up finishes for the Cougars in the 500 freestyle (5:28.34), 100-yard backstroke (1:04.66) and 100-yard freestyle (57.94), respectively. Casey Sweeney added a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:15.14.<\/p>\n
