BALTIMORE, MD, Feb. 17. THE MARIST men won their sixth consecutive championship crown, while the Rider women captured their first conference title in the 2001 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Fitness and Aquatic Center at Loyola College.<\/p>\n
The Marist men tallied 1,042 points en route to winning the championship title, with Rider placing second with 568 points. St. Peter\u2019s finished third
\nwith 489 points, followed by Loyola (426), Iona (382), Fairfield (321) and Niagara (283).<\/p>\n
The Rider women\u2019s team earned their first MAAC crown with 770 points, upsetting defending champion Marist by 21 points (749). Loyola came in third with 560 points, followed by Siena (367.50), St. Peter\u2019s (357.50), Iona (286), Niagara (283), Fairfield (170), Canisius (153) and Manhattan (78).<\/p>\n
Marist\u2019s Keith Nichols was named Most Outstanding Male Swimmer after setting new MAAC records in the 100 yard backstroke (50.52) and the 200 yard backstroke (1:48.87). Fellow Red Fox Erin McGrath earned the Most
\nOutstanding Female Swimmer award, breaking league marks in the 100 yard butterfly (57.77) and the 200 yard butterfly (2:05.25). <\/p>\n
Loyola\u2019s Sarah O\u2019Donnell won the Most Outstanding Female Diver award, placing first in the 3-meter with 359.55 points and second in the 1-meter with 177.85 points. Rider\u2019s Rob Baier rounded out the individual award winners being named Most Outstanding Male Diver. Baier finished first in the 3-meter with 380.60
\npoints and second in the 1-meter with 227.10 points.<\/p>\n
