The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) recently convened in Danang, Vietnam to host their general assembly for 2016. While there the group approved OCA Regional offices in each of the OCA’s five zones, as well as named Aichi-Nagoya, Japan as the host city for the 2026 Asian Games.<\/p>\n

A tradition since the inaugural Asian Games in 1951, this will be the third time the Asian Games have been staged in Japan, following Tokyo (1958) and Hiroshima (1994).<\/p>\n

The Asian Games occur every four years, coinciding with the Winter Olympics, and are a successful multi-sport event in the Asian continent. The current projected cost of the 2026 Asian Games is upward of $800\u00a0million, with one-third of the cost being covered by sponsorship. The remaining costs would be divied up<\/a> between the Aichi prefecture (70%) and Nagoya (30%).<\/p>\n

Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah<\/strong>, President of the OCA, addressed the gathering with thanks, stating,<\/p>\n

The road map of our main event is very stable. Together with our three Asian Games in 2018, 2022 and 2026, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the next two Winter Olympics in Korea and China in 2018 and 2022 respectively, the sports calendar of Asia will be very busy with continental and international events.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to the OCA the first theme will be “Athletes First” and it will part of a five-concept 2026 Asian Games. Excellent sports stadiums “already exist such as the Mizuho Athletics Stadium, Toyota Stadium, Rainbow Hall and Rainbow pool, Komaki volleyball arena and Nagoya Dome.”<\/p>\n
