{"id":222786,"date":"2016-09-29T05:40:59","date_gmt":"2016-09-29T12:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=222786"},"modified":"2016-09-28T20:37:39","modified_gmt":"2016-09-29T03:37:39","slug":"katie-ledecky-explains-how-bryce-harper-got-her-cap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-explains-how-bryce-harper-got-her-cap\/","title":{"rendered":"Katie Ledecky Explains How Bryce Harper Got Her Cap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Washington Nationals honored hometown star\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>last month when they invited her to throw out the ceremonial first pitch in a game against the Baltimore Orioles.<\/p>\n<p>Before tossing a strike to Nationals reliever\u00a0<strong>Shawn Kelley<\/strong>, Ledecky took off each of the five medals she won at the Olympics in Rio and handed them one-by-one to 2015 National League MVP\u00a0<strong>Bryce Harper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That was the last of the Ledecky-Harper connection until the Nationals clinched the NL East last week, and Harper was spotted immediately afterwards in the clubhouse wearing a USA Ledecky cap.<\/p>\n<p>How did he get ahold of it? Ledecky explained Wednesday to the\u00a0<em>Associated Press<\/em><em>&#8216;\u00a0<\/em><strong>Stephen Whyno<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;He was so kind. In the first pitch I gave him the medals, and he was such a good sport about it. I sent him a thank-you note and put a cap in. I told him that maybe it could help him contain his hair as he was rounding third base, but he had other ideas.
