COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 15. OLYMPIAN Rachel Mayer Godino has been elected Chair of the USOC's Athletes' Advisory Council (AAC) for 2001-2004.
\nShe succeeds former swimmer, Bill Stapleton, who was elected a United States Olympic Committee Vice Chair when the organization's Board of Directors met in December 2000.<\/p>\n
Godino, who competed at the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in ice dancing, is program manager for the Learning Network's TeacherPoints and lives in Needham, Massachusetts. A member of the AAC since 1997 as figure skating's representative, she has served on the USOC Executive Committee and Board of Directors since 1999 and joined the Management Committee of the Salt Lake City Olympic Organizing Committee in 2000.<\/p>\n
Elected AAC Vice Chairs for 2001-2004 were Mary McCagg and Chris Duplanty. McCagg, who competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Summer Games as a member of the U.S. Rowing Team and was a USOC athlete liaison for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, resides in
\nCambridge, Massachusetts and is a special sales director for Candlewick Press, a children's book publisher. <\/p>\n
Duplanty, a swim sales manager for adidas America and a resident of Newport Beach,California, was a member of the U.S. Water Polo Teams at the 1988 (silver medal) and 1992 Olympic Summer Games, captain of the 1996 squad at the Games of the XXVIth Olympiad in Atlanta, and assistant coach of the U.S. Women's Water Polo Team (silver medal) at the 2000 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
Duplanty also swam breaststroke for the University of California at Irvine, from 1984-88. Today, he remains active in the sport as a member of U.S. Masters Swimming.<\/p>\n
The Athletes' Advisory Council is composed of, and elected by, amateur athletes to ensure communication between the USOC and currently active athletes. The AAC also serves as a source of opinion and advice to
\nthe USOC Board of Directors with regard to both current and contemplated policies of the organization.<\/p>\n
In addition to Godino, McCagg and Duplanty, Herb Perez and Rob Stull will serve as athlete members of the USOC Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Perez, who won a gold medal in Taekwondo at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, is owner and president of Gold Medal Productions, a video and film production house in San Francisco.<\/p>\n
Stull, who now resides in Tampa, Florida, was a member of the U.S. Modern Pentathlon Team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.<\/p>\n
Mark Henderson, a member of the USA's gold medal-winning medley relay team in 1996, will represent swimming on the AAC.<\/p>\n
Cameron Myler (luge) also was elected an AAC at-large member of the USOC Board of Directors. Others representing the athletes on the board will be Nigel Traverso (field hockey), Tom Fitzgerald (team hand-ball), Shawn Sheldon (wrestling), Reyne Quakenbush (diving), Brenda Baldwin (water skiing), CJ Young (ice hockey), Dominick Minicucci (gymnastics), Jill Savery (synchronized swimming), Tom Wiley (luge), Nick Peterson (rowing), Chris Cole (racquetball), Jim Gregory (modern pentathlon), Felicia Zimmermann (fencing), Will Carlin (squash), Nick Becker (volleyball), Ann Swisshelm (curling) and Bob Foth (shooting).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
