{"id":222212,"date":"2016-09-23T11:40:58","date_gmt":"2016-09-23T18:40:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=222212"},"modified":"2016-09-23T11:40:58","modified_gmt":"2016-09-23T18:40:58","slug":"michael-phelps-named-participant-at-the-2016-ryder-cup-celebrity-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-phelps-named-participant-at-the-2016-ryder-cup-celebrity-match\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Phelps Named Participant At 2016 Ryder Cup Celebrity Match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The PGA of America has announced their celebrity line-up\u00a0for the 2016 Ryder Cup, which starts next week, with\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>being named to the celebrity list.<\/p>\n<p>Phelps will be joined by actor\u00a0<strong>Billy Murray<\/strong>, celebrity chef\u00a0<strong>Todd English<\/strong>, former NHL player\u00a0<strong>Jeremy Roenick<\/strong>, musician\u00a0<strong>Huey Lewis<\/strong>, and more in a 9-hole scramble to kick-off the week of festivities before the Ryder Cup matches begin.<\/p>\n<p>The Celebrity Match is slated to take place at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 27th. Hazeltine National Golf Club\u00a0will also play host to the 41st Ryder Cup competition with competition beginning that Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The Ryder Cup Celebrity Match features celebrities from both the United States and Europe before the three days of competition ensue between the 12-member teams of the United States and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Phelps first began dabbling in golf after the 2012 London Olympic Games as a way to challenge himself when he announced his retirement. While Phelps did not remain retired, making comebacks to the sport in both 2014 and 2015, his passion for golf remained the same.
