Peterson, who swims for Hickory Foundation YMCA, joins\u00a0<strong>Sammie Burchill\u00a0<\/strong>in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/carmels-sammie-burchill-gives-georgia-her-verbal-commitment\/\" target=\"_blank\">announcing her commitment<\/a> to the Dawgs this week.<\/p>\n<p>At <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2016-ymca-long-course-nationals\" target=\"_blank\">YMCA Nationals<\/a> this summer Peterson won the 800 (8:51.13) and 1500 (16:35.63) freestyles. She was also runner up in the 400 freestyle (4:19.39) and finished fourth in the 400 IM (4:57.08).<\/p>\n<p>Last year while representing Hickory High School, Peterson took home the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-north-carolina-high-school-state-championships-marvin-ridge-grabs-3a-state-title-chapel-hill-close-behind\/\" target=\"_blank\">North Carolina High School 3A<\/a> 500 freestyle (4:52.80) state title for the second year in a row. She was third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.93) for the second consecutive season. Peterson is also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.<\/p>\n<p>Peterson&#8217;s best times are:<\/p>\n<p>200\/500\/1000\/1650 Freestyle: 1:49.67\/ 4:46.43\/ 9:47.64\/ 16:11.79<\/p>\n<p>400 IM: 4:20.37<\/p>\n<p>At last year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2016-southeastern-conference-championships\" target=\"_blank\">SEC meet<\/a> Georgia finished third, but later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/video-interview-jack-bauerle-recaps-georgias-unexpected-win\/\" target=\"_blank\">won NCAAs<\/a>. At the 2016 Conference meet, her best time in the mile would have finished fifth. Bulldawg senior\u00a0<strong>Brittany MacLean\u00a0<\/strong>won the event. Peterson would have been in the B final of the 500 freestyle.
