CHRISTIAN Higgins, a five-star recruit from the class of 2011, is the next subject in the <i>Swimming World<\/i> College Recruit Rankings Profiles series. Higgins lives in New Canaan, CT and swims for Wilton Y Wahoos. <\/p>\n<p>He owns long course senior national cuts in the 100 (1:02.29) and 200 (2:15.53) breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Higgins maintains his <a href=http:\/\/www.takeyourmarks.com\/swm661?id=6130 target=_blank>profile<\/a> in the <i>Swimming World<\/i> College Recruit Rankings.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is your favorite and least favorite set?<\/b><br \/>\nMy favorite set is 6x 100 off the blocks fast and probably my least favorite set would have to be timed 30 minute swims fast.<\/p>\n<p><b>Where are you interested in going to college, and how is the process going?<\/b><br \/>\nI have not yet committed to a college and am still in the process of figuring out where I want to look. I&#39;m looking at schools where the weather is warm.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is your favorite swimming-related memory?<\/b><br \/>\nMy favorite swimming memory would be watching my brother Andrew, who just turned 15 this year, at his first meet. He was a hockey player but decided to try swimming as a freshman in high school. He raced the 100 breaststroke at a high school meet and did pretty well considering he hadn&#39;t really raced before. It was pretty cool to see that he was enjoying it. I think he finished 14th in States.<\/p>\n<p><b>Who do you look up to in the world of swimming?<\/b><br \/>\nA lot of people. But I think that the person that I have a lot of respect for who was in the sport is Erik Vendt. I remember reading something about one of his sets being 30x 1000, which is just insane. I think that when you see a guy working hard and getting positive results, it helps to motivate people.<\/p>\n<p><b>What do you consider to be your breakthrough moment in swimming?<\/b><br \/>\nI think that when I tried to make the Olympic trials at the UltraSwim back in 2008. I remember going in there and being seeded like 8 seconds over the cut and ending up missing the cut by .20.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is your daily schedule with school and practice and such?<\/b><br \/>\nUsually I wake up around 5 for morning practice, get in my car with my dog. I&#39;ll get to the Wilton Y and swim for an hour and a half then head off to school. During the day, I&#39;ll try to stay focused and make my way through the day. After school, I&#39;ll head over to the Y again for a two-hour workout and afterwards a short dryland session.<\/p>\n<p><b>What are your long and short-term goals?<\/b><br \/>\nMy short-term goal is to make the National Team. As for long term: the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is something that people wouldn&#39;t know about you?<\/b><br \/>\nOne of the reasons I became a swimmer is because I broke my collarbone playing lacrosse. Afterwards, I decided to make the switch into a yearround swimmer.<\/p>\n<p><b>What are you interested in studying in college?<\/b><br \/>\nI think something to do with the music industry. I love all types of music and have taken a few music production courses at my school so it&#39;s something I think I would enjoy studying.<\/p>\n<p><b>Did you do any other sports besides swimming and lacrosse?<\/b><br \/>\nYes. I played football, baseball and hockey.<\/p>\n<p><b>What keeps you motivated in the pool?<\/b><br \/>\nMy coach Randy Erlenbach. I think the fact that I have a coach who is equally as passionate as I am about the sport and is pushing me every day to do my best is extremely motivating.<\/p>\n<p><b>What are you looking to gain from swimming?<\/b><br \/>\nIt&#39;s something that I love to do. I want to just learn from my experiences and the lessons that swimming gives and hopefully apply them later in life.<\/p>\n<p><b>Does swimming leave you much time for a social life?<\/b><br \/>\nYes and no. I usually just end up spending more time with swimmers and at practice, which aside from school is most of my social life.
