annual ceremony to be held on Friday evening, September 23rd, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Atlanta, GA, in conjunction with the 2016 United States Aquatic Sports XXXVII Convention.<\/strong> The prestigious IMSHOF class of 2016 includes four swimmers: Margaret Cunningham (AUS), Joann Leilich (USA), Nicolas Granger (FRA) & Thomas Maine USA), one diver: Richard Blough (USA), one synchronized swimmer: Leadel Bean (USA), one contributor: Tom Boak (USA) and one water polo club: The Olympic Club (USA), from three different countries: the USA, Australia and France.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Gloria Callen Jones died peacefully at home at sunrise on September 2, 2016.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Gloria was born in Freeport, Long Island, NY, on December 21, 1923. She began swimming at age seven, quickly finding it an outlet for her energy and competitive spirit.\u00a0“Glorious Gloria” Callen was voted the USA’s Outstanding Woman Athlete of 1942. Beginning in 1938 as a long-distance freestyle swimmer, she went on to become a backstroke champion, setting 35 American swimming records. She won 13 National titles and set one world record. Miss Callen won a place on the US Olympic Swimming Team in 1940, at the age of 17. The outbreak of World War II led to the cancellation of the Olympics scheduled for Helsinki, Finland.<\/span><\/div>\n
