Michalentzakis touched in a \u00a0time of 59.27, beating out Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Federico Morlacchi\u00a0<\/strong>and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tamas Sors<\/strong>. Morlacchi maintained his spot at second with a 59.52 finish, while Sors slipped to third with a 59.85.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brenden Hall<\/strong> turned in a final time of 1:01.85 for fourth, followed closely by Cuba&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Juan Castillo Estevez&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>1:01.93.<\/p>\n<p>Croatia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kristijan Vincetic<\/strong> (1:02.50), Argentina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Pulleiro\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.75), and New Zealand&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jesse Reynolds\u00a0<\/strong>(1:04.31) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Fly&#8211;S9<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Xu Jialing\u00a0<\/strong>of China claimed a narrow victory in the women&#8217;s 100 fly S9, finishing a shy .10 seconds ahead of Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarai Gascon\u00a0<\/strong>for first. Xu stopped the clock at a 1:07.90 over Gascon&#8217;s 1:08.00.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zsofia Konkoly\u00a0<\/strong>earned the bronze medal with a 1:09.21 finish, while the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Smith\u00a0<\/strong>settled for fourth with a 1:09.22.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Claire Cashmore\u00a0<\/strong>finished fifth overall with a 1:09.46, followed by the Australian duo of\u00a0<strong>Emily Beecroft\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.56) and\u00a0<strong>Madeleine Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.85).<\/p>\n<p>Ireland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ellen Keane<\/strong> was eighth with a 1:11.27.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Breast&#8211;SB6<\/h3>\n<p>The first World Record of day eight fell during the men&#8217;s 100 breast SB6 when Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ievgenii Bogodaiko\u00a0<\/strong>took to the pool. Bogodaiko delivered a sizzling 1:18.71 to scrape over a second off the previous record of 1:20.17 set at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nelson Crispin Corzo\u00a0<\/strong>of Colombia turned in a 1:21.47 for second, while Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Torben Schmidtke<\/strong> finished third with a time of 1:23.47.<\/p>\n<p>Norway&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andreas Skaar Bjornstad\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 1:26.07 for fourth, followed by China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Di Yingbin<\/strong> (1:27.43).<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christoph Burkard<\/strong> (1:27.68), Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Antoni Ponce Bertran\u00a0<\/strong>(1:30.33), and The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Thijs van Hofweegen\u00a0<\/strong>(1:32.26) were sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Breast&#8211;SB6<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Tiffany Thomas Kane<\/strong> of Australia maintained her hold on first place with a final time of 1:35.39 in finals of the women&#8217;s 100 breast SB6.<\/p>\n<p>Silver went to the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sophia Elizabeth Herzog<\/strong> and her time of 1:36.95, while Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Charlotte Henshaw\u00a0<\/strong>took third with a 1:37.79.<\/p>\n<p>British teammate\u00a0<strong>Eleanor Simmonds<\/strong> finished fourth overall with a 1:39.46, ahead of Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tanya Huebner&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>1:40.54.<\/p>\n<p>The USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Reilly Boyt\u00a0<\/strong>(1:44.95), Ireland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nicole Turner<\/strong> (1:46.19), and Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kate Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.87) finished sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400 Free&#8211;S10<\/h3>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 400 free S10 proved to be the race of the day as all three medalists swam underneath the existing World Record of 4:04.91, set in 2012 by the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ian Silverman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian duo of\u00a0<strong>Maksyn Krypak<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Denys Dubrov\u00a0<\/strong>continued to shine with a 1-2 finish. Krypak demolished the previous World Record with a final time of 3:57.71, while Dubrov flirted with a sub-four minute swim, stopping the clock at a 4:00.11.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benoit Huot\u00a0<\/strong>of Canada took bronze with a 4:04.63, also squeaking under the previous World Record.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bas Takken\u00a0<\/strong>of The Netherlands finished fourth overall with a 4:05.46, while Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dmytro Vanzenko<\/strong> was fifth with a 4:10.19.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rowan Crothers<\/strong> (4:10.83), Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andre Brasil<\/strong> (4:11.12), and Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Guy Harrison-Murray\u00a0<\/strong>(4:11.18) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400 Free&#8211;S10<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Aurelie Rivard<\/strong> of Canada continued the record-breaking enthusiasm into the women&#8217;s 400 free S10 dipping below the previous record of 4:33.15, originally set in 2008 by Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katarzyna Pawlik.\u00a0<\/strong>Rivard stopped the clock at a final time of 4:29.96 for first and new World and Paralympic Records.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Monique Murphy<\/strong> delivered a time of 4:35.09 for second, followed by France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Elodie Lorandi&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>4:35.49.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oliwia Jablonska<\/strong> of Poland finished fourth with a close time of 4:35.52, while Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bianka Pap<\/strong> was fifth with a 4:41.11.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Stefanny Rubi Cristino Zapata<\/strong> (4:45.04), The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Marije Oosterhuis\u00a0<\/strong>(4:48.13), and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anaelle Roulet\u00a0<\/strong>(4:53.59) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Free&#8211;S3<\/h3>\n<p>The records continued to be obliterated in the men&#8217;s 200 free S3 where both\u00a0<strong>Huang Wenpan<\/strong> of China and\u00a0<strong>Dmytro Vynohradets&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong>of Ukraine left the previous World Record of 3:22.98 behind by more than thirteen seconds. Vynohradets&#8217; posted the previous record during the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, but settled for second during finals with a time of 3:09.77. Huang finished just ahead of him with a time of 3:09.04 to claim the official World and Paralympic titles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Li Hanhua<\/strong> of China turned in a time of 3:23.10 for third, while Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vincenzo Boni<\/strong> took fourth with a 3:30.02.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Huang Chaowen<\/strong> (3:39.41), Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miguel Angel Martinez Tajuelo<\/strong> (3:45.19), Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ioannis Kostakis<\/strong> (4:01.46), and Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mikael Fredriksson<\/strong> (4:17.70) were fifth through eighth respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM&#8211;SM5<\/h3>\n<p>Norway&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Louise Rung<\/strong> continued to reign over the competition in finals of the women&#8217;s 200 IM SM5, finishing more than twenty seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Rung stopped the clock at a 3:15.83 to claim the gold and flirt with\u00a0<strong>Natalia Ziani&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>World Record of 3:13.43.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teresa Perales\u00a0<\/strong>of Spain delivered a final time of 3:36.14 for the silver medal, while Israel&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Inbal Pezaro\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a 3:38.20.<\/p>\n<p>Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Natallia Shavel<\/strong> finished fourth with a time of 3:39.61, followed by the Czech Republic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bela Trebinova&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>3:41.76.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>giulia Ghiretti\u00a0<\/strong>(3:48.68), Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Susana Ribeiro\u00a0<\/strong>(3:50.69), and China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wu Qi<\/strong> (3:51.08) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Free&#8211;S11<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Bradley Snyder<\/strong> of the USA delivered a new World and Paralympic Record in the men&#8217;s 100 free S11. Snyder dashed ahead of the competition to touch first with a 56.15 and re-write the record books.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up second was China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yang Bozun<\/strong> with a final time of 59.51, followed closely by Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Keiichi Kimura\u00a0<\/strong>and his time of 59.63.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hendri Herbst<\/strong> delivered a 59.71 for fourth, while Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matheus Souza<\/strong> also squeezed underneath the one minute mark with a 59.80.<\/p>\n<p>Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Hryhory Zudzilau<\/strong> (1:00.21), Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wojciech Makowski<\/strong> (1:01.74), and the Czech Republic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miroslav Smrcka<\/strong> (1:02.95) finished sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Free&#8211;S11<\/h3>\n<p>China delivered a 1-2 finish in finals of the women&#8217;s 100 free S11. Teammates\u00a0<strong>Xie Qing<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Li Guizhi\u00a0<\/strong>turned in times of 1:08.03 and 1:08.31 respectively for the gold and silver medals.<\/p>\n<p>Bronze was won by The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Liesette Bruinsma<\/strong> and her final time of 1:08.55.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mary Fisher<\/strong> took fourth overall with a 1:09.47, while fifth went to Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cecilia Camellini<\/strong> (1:10.39).<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maja Reichard\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.53), Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maryna Piddubna\u00a0<\/strong>(1:11.55), and the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Letticia Martinez\u00a0<\/strong>(1:14.09) claimed sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Back&#8211;S1<\/h3>\n<p>Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hennadii Boiko<\/strong> powered ahead of the competition in the men&#8217;s 50 back S1, stopping the clock at a 1:00.85, more than ten seconds ahead of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Francesco Bettella\u00a0<\/strong>finished second overall with a time of 1:12.49, while the bronze medal went to Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anton Kol<\/strong> and his time of 1:15.42.<\/p>\n<p>The Greek duo of\u00a0<strong>Christos Tampaxis\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Dimitrios Karypidis\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth and fifth with times of 1:22.30 and 1:32.09 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Colombia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Luis Rojas Osorno<\/strong> was sixth with a time of 1:46.67.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Back&#8211;S2<\/h3>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 50 back S2 field obliterated the previous World Record of 1:00.90 set in 2012 by China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yang Yang\u00a0<\/strong>by having an astounding five swimmers post times underneath the World Record.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zou Liankang<\/strong> led the charge posting the new official record at a sizzling 47.17. He was followed to the wall by Chinese teammate\u00a0<strong>Liu Benying<\/strong> and his time of 48.84.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Serhii Palamarchuk\u00a0<\/strong>took third overall with a 50.23, while Yang posted a 57.27 for fourth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ievgen Panibratets\u00a0<\/strong>of Ukraine was the final person to swim under the previous record, delivering a final time of 1:00.03 for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jacek Czech\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.91), Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aristeidis Makrodimitris\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.46), and Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Roman Bondarenko<\/strong> (1:03.89) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Back&#8211;S2<\/h3>\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Pin Xiu Yip<\/strong> finished first in the women&#8217;s 50 back S2 with a time of 1:00.33 to flirt with a sub-minute swim.<\/p>\n<p>The silver medal went to China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Feng Yazhu<\/strong> and her time of 1:02.66, while Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Iryna Sotska<\/strong> claimed third with a time of 1:17.22.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Glorica Boccanera<\/strong> was fourth overall with a 1:22.80, followd by Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maria Kalpakidou&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>1:24.45.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zsanett Adami<\/strong> and the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cassie Mitchell<\/strong> were sixth and seventh with times of 1:25.97 and 1:28.19 respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everything you need to follow along with finals of day eight of the 2016 Paralympic Games.
