Two-time Olympian\u00a0Roy-Allan Burch\u00a0<\/strong>has accepted the position of head coach for Lake Norman Charter School (LNC) in Huntersville, NC.<\/p>\n

Burch represented Bermuda in both the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games, while training under the tutelage of SwimMAC’s\u00a0David Marsh<\/strong>. However, a fatal knee injury in March 2015 left Burch wheel-chair bound for three months and ended his hopes of a 2016 Olympic berth. While attempting to dunk a basketball before swim practice, Burch ruptured both of his patellar tendons in both knees.<\/p>\n

Currently, Burch still holds individual Bermudian records in the 50 (22.47) and 100 (49.29) LCM freestyle, 50 LCM backstroke (28.14), 50 LCM butterfly (24.77), and is a member of the 200 LCM freestyle relay and 200 LCM medley relay.<\/p>\n

Talking to\u00a0The Charlotte Observer<\/em>, Burch noted,<\/p>\n

I’m excited to accept the head coaching position at LNC. After learning about the role, the school and the caliber of the program, I knew this would be a great opportunity for both the team and myself. I want to continue to improve LNC’s program and the head coaching position allows me to do just that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

LNC’s Athletic Director,\u00a0Matt Schlegel<\/strong>, added,<\/p>\n

We are excited for what coach Burch will bring to our swim team and look forward to his leadership as we continue to grow our program and build upon its past success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Opened in 2008, LNC has quickly rocketed to success winning the N.C. Wells Fargo cup for overall athletic excellence among 1A schools in 2013 before growing and winning the 2A Cup in 2015. At last year’s N.C. State Championships the girls finished fourth, while the boys were sixth overall.<\/p>\n
